Dr Umesh Pratap Vats receives the Vishwa Kirti Shri Samman–2026 for his contribution to literature, education, social awareness and social service at a ceremony in New Delhi.

Dr Umesh Pratap Vats, a noted educationist, writer, sportsperson and social worker from Yamunanagar, has been conferred the prestigious ‘Vishwa Kirti Shri Samman–2026’ in recognition of his sustained contribution to literature, social service, public awareness and national causes. The honour was presented during the International-National Honour Ceremony and honorary doctorate programme organised under the aegis of the International Human Rights Protection Bureau (India), under the direction of its chairman Dr Devendra Kumar Pathak.
The prestigious ceremony was held at the NDMC Convention Centre at Jantar Mantar, Sansad Marg, New Delhi, where distinguished personalities from different fields were recognised for their contributions to society. Dr Vats received the highest title among the honours presented during the ceremony, marking a significant recognition of his long-standing engagement with literature, education and social initiatives.
The event was attended by several prominent personalities. Jagatguru Sanatan Samrat Swami Chakrapani Nand Giri Maharaj, National President of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Sant Mahasabha, graced the programme as the presiding dignitary. Haryana State Commission for Women chairperson Usha Priyadarshini was present as the chief guest. Sri Sri Sri 1008 Jagatguru Lama Gyatso Rinpoche, founder of the Buddhist World Peace Foundation, attended as the principal distinguished guest, while Sudha Rani Relangi, Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission, Government of India, was among the distinguished guests.
The ceremony also witnessed the presence of Devanagari Utthan Foundation founder Dr Sunil Dubey, Padma Shri awardee and Olympian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, former Haryana Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development Kavita Jain and other distinguished guests.
Dr Vats has established a distinct identity in the literary field through his sustained writing and creative work. He has so far published nine books, comprising five poetry collections, two short-story collections, one collection of short-short stories and one collaborative anthology. His writings cover a wide range of themes, including human emotions, social concerns, values of life, national consciousness and contemporary issues.
One of the notable achievements in his literary journey is the recognition of his short-story collection ‘Umar Ki Sanjh Par’ as a distinguished work in Haryana. The recognition reflects his ability to portray the experiences, struggles and emotions of different sections of society through literary expression.
Dr Vats believes that literature should not be restricted to entertainment or creative expression alone. In his view, literature has the potential to influence social thinking, encourage constructive dialogue and create positive awareness. His writings have frequently addressed social disparities, human values, national issues, education, culture and contemporary concerns.
Sharing his perspective on social responsibility, Dr Vats has maintained that a person’s real identity is determined not by position, status or material resources, but by thoughts, values and commitment towards society. His literary and social activities have been guided by this philosophy, with an emphasis on strengthening positive thinking, human sensitivity and a sense of responsibility towards nation-building.
According to Dr Vats, literature and social service share a common objective — making society more sensitive, aware, cultured and committed to values. He considers social service not merely an act of providing assistance, but a means of fulfilling one’s responsibility towards humanity.
He has also emphasised that knowledge, experience and personal capabilities acquire greater meaning when they are used to bring hope and positive change into the lives of others. His approach has combined literary activity with social engagement and public awareness initiatives.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Dr Vats said that recognition should not be considered the end of a journey but an expansion of responsibilities. He expressed his commitment to continuing his work in literature and social service, particularly in areas connected with humanity, social harmony, education, culture and national consciousness.
He said that a strong nation can be built only on the foundation of human values, social harmony, education, cultural awareness and ethical conduct. He added that the honour would encourage him to work with greater dedication in these areas.
The Vishwa Kirti Shri Samman–2026 also recognises Dr Vats’ extensive contribution to public awareness through contemporary writing. He has written around 400 articles on contemporary subjects for awareness and social discourse in India and abroad. Alongside these articles, his nine published books across different literary forms form an important part of his contribution.
The organisation conducting the ceremony has instituted a series of national and international honours to recognise individuals who have made notable contributions in different fields. These include Vishwa Kirti Shri Samman, Vishwa Kirti Bhushan Samman, Vishwa Kirti Vibhushan Samman, Rashtriya Samaj Bhushan Samman, Rashtriya Shiksha Vibhushan Samman, Rashtriya Gyan Vibhushan Samman and Rashtriya Nyay Vibhushan Samman.
Dr Vats’ selection for the Vishwa Kirti Shri Samman, described at the ceremony as the highest title in the honour list, has brought recognition to Yamunanagar’s literary and educational community. His profile combines teaching, literature, sports and social service, giving his work a multidimensional character.
In the field of education, Dr Vats has acquired academic qualifications in multiple disciplines, including Hindi, English, History, Education, Yoga Science and Computer Science. He holds master’s degrees in six subjects, besides M.I.T., M.Phil. and a Ph.D. in Hindi. He is also pursuing a Ph.D. in Yoga and Naturopathy, which he began in 2023.
Reflecting on his long professional journey, Dr Vats spoke about his experience in the education sector and said that despite his academic qualifications, professional work and consistently strong results, he had not traditionally pursued government awards. He said he had spent around 32 years in service without applying for such recognition because he had heard various accounts about the process of securing awards.
He added that he applied for state recognition in 2024 and 2025 after colleagues encouraged him to do so, but did not receive a positive response. Without elaborating further, he expressed the view that institutional recognition by social organisations can sometimes provide an alternative platform for acknowledging deserving individuals.
The honour ceremony also featured the participation of several officials and distinguished guests, including CRPF DIG Prabhakar Tripathi, Commandant Balapurkar associated with Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Dham, Additional Judicial Magistrates Ravi Kumar and Neha Chaudhary, District Judge Jitendra Parashar and former Karnataka State Commission for Women member Pramila Naidu.
The recognition of Dr Vats comes as an acknowledgement of his long association with literature and education as well as his efforts to connect writing with wider social concerns. His body of work, comprising books, articles, educational engagement and social initiatives, has contributed to creating awareness around contemporary issues and values.
For Yamunanagar, the honour also represents recognition of a local literary figure whose activities extend beyond writing. His work as an educator, author, national-level sportsperson and social worker has allowed him to engage with different sections of society and communicate messages concerning education, culture, social harmony and national responsibility.
Dr Vats said he would continue to use literature and social engagement as instruments for positive change. He expressed gratitude to the organisers, colleagues, family members and well-wishers who had supported his journey and said the recognition would further strengthen his resolve to contribute to society.
The Vishwa Kirti Shri Samman–2026 therefore marks another important milestone in Dr Umesh Pratap Vats’ long association with literature, education and social service, while also highlighting the role of writers and educators in promoting awareness, values and constructive social dialogue.
