The sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with warmth and festive spirit at District Jail Yamunanagar in accordance with the directions of the Director General of Prisons, Haryana. The celebration provided inmates an opportunity to meet their family members and observe the festival of the brother-sister bond within the prescribed rules and security arrangements of the jail administration.
As part of the special arrangements made for the festival, meetings between inmates and their family members were facilitated at the jail’s designated meeting area from 8 am to 4 pm. Brothers and sisters among the inmates and their visiting family members were allowed to celebrate Raksha Bandhan by tying rakhis in accordance with the established jail procedures.
The jail administration made special arrangements so that the festival could be observed in a dignified and organised manner. Rakhis, sweets, sacred protection threads and tilak material were arranged by the administration for the inmates and their family members. These arrangements ensured that families visiting the jail could participate in the festival without having to make separate arrangements for the essential ceremonial items.
Raksha Bandhan holds special emotional significance for families, particularly because it provides brothers and sisters an opportunity to reaffirm their bond of affection, care and mutual support. For inmates who are unable to remain with their families during festivals because of their confinement, such meetings can provide an important opportunity to maintain family connections.
The jail administration also arranged a special sweet dish for the inmates on the occasion. Kheer was distributed among the inmates as part of the festival arrangements. The special meal and festive arrangements were intended to create a positive atmosphere inside the jail while ensuring that all activities remained within the prescribed rules and security protocols.
The administration also paid particular attention to security arrangements during the festival because of the increased movement of visitors at the jail. Coordination was established with the Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police for deployment of a PCR vehicle and women police personnel at the jail premises. The additional arrangements were made to ensure that the movement of visitors and the festival-related meetings could take place smoothly while maintaining the overall security of the institution.
The jail authorities maintained that the arrangements were carried out in a coordinated manner so that inmates could meet their family members without compromising the security requirements of the prison. The presence of police personnel also helped support the jail administration in managing the movement of visitors during the extended meeting period.
The festival arrangements also highlighted the importance of maintaining family and social connections for inmates. Festivals such as Raksha Bandhan often provide families with an opportunity to remain emotionally connected despite physical separation. The meeting arrangements allowed inmates to spend time with their brothers, sisters and other family members and participate in the traditional ceremony under the supervision of the jail administration.
The administration ensured that the meetings were conducted according to the applicable rules and procedures. The arrangements were made from the morning hours and continued until 4 pm, allowing visiting family members sufficient time to meet inmates during the designated period.
Jail Superintendent Satender Kumar extended his greetings to all inmates and family members who visited the jail on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. He wished them a bright and peaceful future and conveyed his best wishes to all those observing the festival.
The festival was observed in the presence of senior jail officials and other members of the jail staff. Among those present were Varun Kumar, Deputy Superintendent (Security); Bhupinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent (Administration); Darshan Lal, Assistant Superintendent; Jagdish Chandra, Deputy Assistant Superintendent; Randeep, Deputy Assistant Superintendent; and Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Assistant Superintendent.
Head Warders Suresh Kumar, Sanjay Singh and Vinod Kumar, along with Warders Balkar Singh, Suresh Kumar and Akshat Kumar, were also present during the arrangements. Other jail employees were involved in ensuring the smooth conduct of the day’s activities.
The presence of jail officials throughout the programme ensured that the festival-related activities remained organised and that inmates and their visiting family members could participate in the celebrations within the established framework. The administration also coordinated the security arrangements with the district police to manage the increased number of visitors during the festival.
For the inmates, the opportunity to meet family members and receive rakhis on Raksha Bandhan carried special emotional importance. The festival allowed families to express affection and solidarity while respecting the rules governing visits inside the correctional facility.
The administration’s arrangements also included traditional elements such as tilak, rakhis and sweets, while the distribution of kheer provided a special festive touch for the inmates. The initiative reflected the effort to observe important festivals in an orderly and humane environment while maintaining the necessary institutional discipline.
The jail authorities reiterated that all arrangements were made in accordance with the directions of the Haryana Prisons Department and established security procedures. Coordination between the jail administration and district police remained an important component of the day’s arrangements, particularly because of the large number of family members visiting the facility.
