A 55-year-old woman was killed and another lost an arm after a speeding Hydra vehicle allegedly rammed into two pedestrians on Khajuri Road in Yamunanagar’s Shadipur area on Monday morning. A three-year-old girl, who was in her mother’s arms at the time of the collision, escaped unhurt after being thrown clear of the impact. The driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled, police said. The deceased has been identified as Hamida Khatun (55), a native of Liliyahi village in Katihar district of Bihar. The injured woman, Anisha Khatun, remains admitted to hospital, where doctors amputated one of her arms in an effort to save her life. According to the complaint lodged by Riyaz, the family, originally from Katihar district in Bihar, has been living in Shadipur, where he works as a labourer in a plywood factory. On Monday morning, he was walking to the local market with his wife Anisha, their three-year-old daughter Anaya, and his relative Hamida Khatun to purchase household essentials. Police said Anisha was carrying her daughter in her arms, while Hamida was walking beside her. Riyaz was a short distance behind when the accident occurred near Vedic Sadhan Ashram on Khajuri Road. According to eyewitnesses and the police, a yellow Hydra vehicle approaching at high speed allegedly struck both women. The impact threw the child onto the roadside, sparing her from serious injury. The vehicle then allegedly ran over Anisha’s arm and leg before hitting Hamida Khatun and continuing forward. Passers-by immediately alerted emergency services. Personnel from Dial-112 and the local police reached the spot and shifted the victims to a hospital in Jagadhri. Doctors declared Hamida Khatun dead on arrival, while Anisha underwent emergency treatment. Owing to the severity of her injuries, surgeons were forced to amputate one of her arms. Based on Riyaz’s complaint, Sadar Police Station has registered an FIR against the unidentified Hydra driver under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving causing death and injuries. The abandoned vehicle has been taken into police custody, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the absconding driver. Police said CCTV footage from nearby areas and other technical evidence are being examined as part of the investigation.
