Mayor Suman Bahmani says civic body will explore multilevel parking, waste-to-art parks and other projects suited to local needs

In an effort to give urban development and beautification a new direction, the Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri is studying modern civic infrastructure and innovative public-space projects developed in other major cities. As part of this initiative, Mayor Suman Bahmani, accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, municipal officials and councillors, visited Gurugram, Delhi and Noida to examine a range of urban development models that could potentially be adapted to local requirements.
The delegation studied projects including modern multilevel parking facilities, public parks, swimming pools, municipal buildings and initiatives based on the waste-to-best concept. The visit was aimed at understanding how other urban local bodies have developed infrastructure, improved public spaces and used innovative designs to combine civic utility with city beautification.
The study tour began in Gurugram, where Mayor Suman Bahmani and the visiting delegation were welcomed by Gurugram Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra. A meeting was held in the presence of both mayors, during which the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri team received information about various development works and modern projects being undertaken in Gurugram.
Municipal officials explained the utility, planning, construction processes and expected benefits of several projects. The discussions focused on how modern civic infrastructure can help address growing urban needs while also improving the overall appearance and functionality of a city.
One of the major stops during the Gurugram visit was the under-construction modern Municipal Corporation building on Sadar Bazaar-Mehrauli Road. The delegation examined the building’s design, planned facilities and modern infrastructure arrangements. The visit provided an opportunity for the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri civic team to study the planning and execution of a contemporary municipal facility designed to meet administrative and public-service requirements.
The delegation also inspected an under-construction swimming pool, a multilevel parking facility and Wonder Park. The multilevel parking project was of particular interest because such facilities are designed to accommodate a larger number of vehicles within limited urban space.
With increasing vehicle numbers and pressure on available parking areas, the team studied the infrastructure and planning model used for multilevel parking. The visit was intended to help municipal representatives understand whether similar projects could be developed in Yamunanagar-Jagadhri after considering local traffic patterns, available land and civic requirements.
At Wonder Park, the delegation examined recreational facilities, attractive installations and public-space development features. Such projects combine leisure infrastructure with urban beautification and can create spaces for residents and visitors.
After completing the Gurugram visit, the delegation travelled to Delhi, where members studied different parks and their management, landscaping and beautification arrangements. The visit focused on understanding how public parks can be developed not only as green spaces but also as attractive community areas offering recreational opportunities.
The team then visited Jungle Park in Noida, where the concept of transforming discarded material into creative installations was examined. Various attractive sculptures of elephants, camels, horses and other wild animals have been created using waste materials.
The project demonstrates how discarded materials can be reused creatively to develop attractive public spaces while promoting environmental awareness. The waste-to-best model was seen as a potential way to combine sustainability, art and urban beautification.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said Yamunanagar-Jagadhri would study successful projects developed in other cities and examine how suitable ideas could be adapted according to local conditions.
She said the objective was not merely to replicate projects but to understand the planning, utility and public benefits associated with them and then explore possibilities for implementing similar initiatives based on the requirements of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.
The Mayor said the Municipal Corporation would work towards making the twin cities more modern, organised and visually appealing while also improving facilities for residents.
“Good work carried out in other cities can provide useful ideas and practical models for urban development. Projects such as multilevel parking facilities, parks featuring waste-to-art installations and modern recreational spaces can be explored according to the needs and available resources of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri,” she said.
She added that beautification and civic convenience must progress together. The corporation’s priority, she said, is to improve public facilities while developing infrastructure that contributes to a cleaner, more organised and attractive urban environment.
The visit also underlined the growing importance of learning from successful civic projects in other cities. Urban areas across the country are increasingly experimenting with innovative solutions for parking, waste management, recreation and public infrastructure. Such exposure visits allow municipal teams to study the practical aspects of these projects, including design, implementation and maintenance.
The Yamunanagar-Jagadhri delegation included Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, Executive Engineer Harish Kumar, Junior Engineers Abhishek and Arvind, and councillors Reena Rastogi, Priyank Sharma, Manu Singla, Ruchi Sharma, Manjeet Kaur, Sandeep Dhiman, Dikshit Dhiman and Vikram Rana, among others.
The Municipal Corporation is now expected to examine the observations gathered during the study tour and assess which projects can be considered for implementation in the twin cities.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said the corporation would focus on modern urban development projects that address practical civic requirements while contributing to the overall beautification and systematic growth of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.
