Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department, Dinesh Gaba, has appealed to residents to obtain approved drinking water and sewerage connections, stating that both connections are essential and that the government has significantly reduced the charges to make the facility more accessible to consumers.

Gaba said that the government had earlier fixed a fee of ₹10,500 for obtaining water and sewerage connections. However, the charges have now been reduced to only ₹1,500, including ₹1,000 for a drinking water connection and ₹500 for a sewerage connection.

He said the department has also introduced an installment facility for consumers who are unable to pay the entire ₹1,500 amount at once. Under this provision, instead of depositing the full fee immediately, consumers can obtain the connection by having ₹10 added to their monthly bill until the prescribed amount is recovered in installments.

According to the Executive Engineer, the department has also simplified the approval process so that consumers do not have to make repeated visits to departmental offices. Departmental employees will visit households and facilitate the approval of drinking water and sewerage connections at the doorstep.

Gaba urged residents who have not yet obtained a drinking water or sewerage connection to take advantage of the reduced fee and installment facility and get their connections approved at the earliest.

He also cautioned that consumers who fail to get their water or sewerage connections approved may face disconnection action by the department.

The department said the initiative is aimed at encouraging more households to obtain authorised connections, improving access to essential public services and ensuring proper sewerage management.
