Deputy Commissioner Preeti chairs a review meeting with departmental officials on pollution control, water management, sewerage and environmental protection measures.
Officials directed to ensure regular BOD testing, speed up STP projects, strengthen greywater management and prevent plastic waste from entering water bodies

Deputy Commissioner Preeti chaired a review meeting at the auditorium of the District Secretariat to assess ongoing measures related to pollution control, water management, sewerage infrastructure and environmental protection. The meeting was attended by the Regional Officer of the Pollution Control Board and officials from various concerned departments.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the prevailing pollution situation in the district and assessed the progress of measures being undertaken to control environmental pollution. She issued necessary directions to the concerned departments and stressed the need for better coordination, regular monitoring and timely completion of projects linked to environmental protection and public sanitation.
DC Preeti directed officials to ensure the regular testing of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) as part of efforts to monitor water quality and pollution levels. She said every environmental protection-related project and activity should have a clearly defined timeline, and officials must ensure that assigned tasks are completed within the stipulated period.
She made it clear that unnecessary delays in works related to pollution control, water management and environmental protection would not be acceptable. Departments were asked to regularly monitor the progress of ongoing projects and ensure that pending works are completed without delay.
The meeting also discussed the issue related to Dadwa Dairy. The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to take appropriate steps and work towards a proper and effective solution to the problem.
Special emphasis was also placed on the completion of under-construction Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in the district. DC Preeti directed the concerned departments to expedite the pending work and ensure that all projects are completed within the prescribed timeframe.
Reviewing the issue of greywater management, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to hold a coordinated meeting and prepare an appropriate and sustainable solution. She said the Panchayat Department and the Zila Parishad should work in close coordination to effectively address issues related to wastewater disposal, drainage and greywater management in rural areas.
The Deputy Commissioner also issued directions to prevent plastic waste carried by flowing water from entering or accumulating in water bodies. She instructed the concerned authorities to construct brick chambers at suitable locations where floating plastic waste can be trapped and collected.
Officials were further directed to ensure the regular removal and proper disposal of plastic waste collected through these arrangements. She said effective measures must be taken to protect rivers and other water sources from plastic pollution.
As part of the environmental protection measures, DC Preeti also directed the concerned authorities to install fencing on river bridges to prevent people from throwing garbage and other materials into water bodies. The Irrigation Department was instructed to take the necessary action promptly.
She appealed to residents not to throw garbage, plastic or any other waste into rivers and water channels, stressing that public participation is equally important for keeping water sources clean and protecting the environment.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the targets related to water supply and sewerage connections and directed officials to complete the assigned targets within the stipulated period. She said all connections planned under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme must also be completed on time.
Concerned departments were instructed to maintain regular monitoring of the works and submit progress reports to the administration. The Deputy Commissioner said that departments dealing with pollution control, water management, sewerage and sanitation must work in close coordination to achieve better and long-lasting results.
She emphasised that environmental protection remains a key priority of the district administration and that negligence at any level in the implementation of environmental and sanitation-related works would not be tolerated.
The meeting was attended by DSP Kanwaljit Singh, CTM Piyush Gupta, Regional Officer of the Pollution Control Board Pradeep Singh, Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department Saurabh Ahlawat, Dinesh Gaba, Love Kumar, officials of the Municipal Corporation and other concerned departmental officers.
