Students participate in Teej and Independence Day celebrations at Maharaja Agrasen College, Jagadhri.
Students showcase Indian traditions, patriotic spirit and artistic talent through cultural activities, mehendi and rangoli competitions

A grand Teej Festival and Independence Day celebration was organised by the Department of Commercial Arts, Maharaja Agrasen College, Jagadhri, in collaboration with the Cultural Department. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Veera and Professor Seema Jain, with students and staff members participating enthusiastically.
The celebration brought together the colourful traditions of the Teej festival and the patriotic spirit associated with Independence Day. The programme was organised with the objective of promoting Indian culture, traditions and national pride among students while providing them an opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent.
The Teej celebrations featured traditional colourful decorations, cultural activities and various programmes reflecting the richness of Indian folk traditions. The atmosphere of the college campus reflected the vibrancy and enthusiasm associated with Teej, while the Independence Day segment reminded students of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and the responsibilities of citizens towards the nation.
A special feature of the programme was the meaningful combination of traditional culture and patriotism. Students participated in various activities with enthusiasm and presented the message of “One Nation, One Culture, One Pride.” The celebrations provided students with an opportunity to understand the importance of preserving India’s cultural heritage while remaining committed to the values of national unity and responsibility.
Addressing the students, College Principal Dr. Karuna said that traditional festivals such as Teej connect the younger generation with India’s rich cultural heritage and age-old traditions. She said that such celebrations help students understand the cultural values that have been passed down through generations.
She added that Independence Day reminds every citizen of the sacrifices and struggles of the freedom fighters who made the country’s independence possible. Students, she said, should preserve their cultural traditions while simultaneously contributing positively to the progress and development of the nation.
Dr. Karuna appreciated the efforts of the Department of Commercial Arts and the Cultural Department for organising the programme and providing students with a platform to participate in cultural and creative activities.
Members of the college management committee also attended the celebration. In their address, they said that education should not be limited to academic development alone. Connecting students with Indian culture, ethical values, social responsibility and patriotism is equally important in the overall development of young people.
The management members said that such programmes provide students with a platform to showcase their talents while helping them develop confidence, leadership qualities, creativity and a sense of social responsibility. They congratulated the students, faculty members and organisers for successfully conducting the programme.
As part of the celebrations, mehendi and rangoli competitions were also organised. Students participated enthusiastically and displayed their artistic skills through colourful designs and creative presentations.
The judging panel for the competitions comprised Professor Poonam Garg and Dr. Anita, who appreciated the creativity and enthusiasm of the participating students. They encouraged the students and praised the mehendi designs and rangoli presentations prepared during the competitions.
In the Mehendi Competition, Nikita of B.A. Third Year secured the first position, while Tanu of BCA Second Year stood second. Alisha of B.Com Third Year secured the third position.
In the Rangoli Competition, Yogesh and Simran of B.A. Second Year jointly secured the first position, while Chetan of B.Com Third Year secured the second position.
The competitions added a colourful and creative dimension to the celebrations and reflected the students’ interest in preserving traditional art forms. The participants demonstrated considerable creativity while using traditional motifs and designs to express the festive spirit.
The programme also highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for students to participate in activities beyond the classroom. Such events enable students to develop their creative abilities, interact with their peers and learn the importance of teamwork and participation.
The organisers said that combining Teej celebrations with Independence Day provided a unique opportunity to highlight both India’s cultural heritage and its national identity. While Teej represents the country’s vibrant traditions and social-cultural heritage, Independence Day represents freedom, sacrifice, unity and national pride.
The celebrations concluded with students and staff taking a collective pledge to strengthen the values of freedom, unity, cultural heritage and national pride. The entire college campus remained filled with enthusiasm, festive spirit and patriotic fervour throughout the programme.
The successful organisation of the event reflected the college’s efforts to provide students with a balanced educational environment in which academic learning is complemented by cultural awareness, creativity, patriotism and social responsibility.
