Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goel, various teams of the Yamunanagar Police are conducting awareness programmes at educational institutions across the district to educate students about personal safety, cyber security and measures to protect themselves from potentially unsafe situations.
As part of this ongoing initiative, ASI Neelam of the Police Safe City Team visited Golden High School, Krishna Colony, Yamunanagar, where she interacted with students and provided them with important information related to their personal safety and security.
During the awareness session, ASI Neelam explained the concepts of good touch and bad touch to the students in simple and easy-to-understand language. She told the children that they should be aware of their personal boundaries and understand the importance of protecting their private body parts.
She advised students that if any person attempts to touch them in an inappropriate manner or behaves in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable, they should not remain silent. Instead, they should immediately inform their parents, teachers or another trusted adult about the incident.
The police officer emphasised that children should never feel ashamed or afraid to speak about inappropriate behaviour. She encouraged them to understand that their safety is the priority and that hiding such incidents can make it more difficult for adults and authorities to provide timely assistance.
ASI Neelam also cautioned students against being influenced or misled by strangers. She advised them not to share personal information with unknown persons and to immediately seek help if they find themselves in an uncomfortable, threatening or unsafe situation.
The students were also informed about the 112 emergency helpline, through which police assistance can be sought during an emergency. ASI Neelam explained that children and members of the public should use the emergency number responsibly and contact it when genuine emergency assistance is required.
The police team further discussed cyber safety with the students. They were advised to remain cautious while using the internet, mobile phones and social media platforms and not to interact carelessly with unknown persons online. Students were encouraged to immediately inform their parents or teachers if they encounter suspicious messages, online behaviour or any activity that makes them uncomfortable.
The officers also advised the students to remain alert about their surroundings and report suspicious activities to trusted adults. They stressed that awareness at an early age can help children recognise potentially unsafe situations and respond appropriately instead of panicking.
The police said that educating children about safety is an important part of crime prevention. When students understand their rights, personal boundaries and available avenues of assistance, they become better prepared to deal with difficult situations and seek help at the right time.
Teachers at Golden High School appreciated the initiative taken by the police and the information shared during the awareness session. They said such programmes are useful because students often have questions about safety but may hesitate to discuss them openly.
The students also participated enthusiastically in the programme and asked questions about various situations concerning their safety. Police officials responded to their queries and encouraged them to speak openly with their parents, teachers or other trusted adults whenever they face a problem.
The police department said that awareness programmes of this nature are being organised at different educational institutions across Yamunanagar district under the supervision of SP Kamaldeep Goel. The objective is to create a safer environment for students while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and available safety mechanisms.
The initiative also seeks to strengthen communication between students, schools and the police so that children can approach responsible adults without hesitation whenever they face a safety-related concern.
Police officials emphasised that parents and teachers also have an important role to play in ensuring children’s safety. Regular communication, awareness about personal boundaries and timely reporting of suspicious behaviour can help prevent potentially serious incidents.
The Yamunanagar Police appealed to students to remain alert, trust their instincts and immediately seek assistance whenever they feel unsafe. They reiterated that children should never hesitate to report inappropriate behaviour and should always approach a trusted adult or the police when necessary.
Through continued awareness programmes in schools and other educational institutions, the police aim to equip students with practical knowledge about personal safety, emergency assistance and responsible online behaviour. The campaign will continue across the district so that maximum numbers of students can benefit from the initiative.
