Child Welfare and Child Protection Teams Join Independence Day Programme; Shaheed Sudhir Narwal’s Son Ayansh Honoured and Plantation Drive Held

The spirit of patriotism and national pride came alive at SD Public School, Sherpur Mod, where a special programme was organised ahead of Independence Day under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The event brought together schoolchildren, representatives of the District Child Welfare Committee and the District Child Protection Unit, with the objective of encouraging young students to understand the importance of the national flag, the country’s freedom struggle and their responsibilities as citizens.

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is being observed from August 9 to August 17, 2026, with citizens being encouraged to display the national flag at their homes and participate in activities celebrating India’s independence and national unity.

The programme at the school was organised in the run-up to Independence Day and focused on connecting children with the values associated with the national flag. Speakers told the students that the Tricolour represents the country’s honour, pride and collective identity.

Addressing the students, Sushil Gulati, member of the District Child Welfare Committee, urged them to become active participants in the nationwide patriotic campaign. He said the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative should not be viewed merely as an exercise in hoisting the national flag.

According to Gulati, the campaign provides an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and to understand the values that shaped India’s journey as an independent nation.

He encouraged students to participate in the campaign with enthusiasm and use the occasion to develop a deeper sense of responsibility towards the country. He said patriotism should be reflected not only in national celebrations but also through responsible conduct, respect for others and a commitment to contributing positively to society.

The programme also featured cultural presentations by school students. The children presented performances reflecting patriotic themes and the spirit of Independence Day. Their presentations added enthusiasm to the event and created an atmosphere centred around national pride and respect for the Tricolour.

One of the significant moments of the programme was the felicitation of Ayansh Narwal, son of martyr Sudhir Narwal, by the District Child Welfare Committee.

The committee honoured Ayansh as part of the programme, recognising the family’s association with the country’s service and sacrifice. The gesture also served as an opportunity for the students to understand the importance of remembering the contributions and sacrifices of those who have served the nation.

A tree plantation activity was also organised during the programme. Participants planted saplings as a message of environmental responsibility and the need to protect the natural environment.

The plantation activity added an environmental dimension to the patriotic programme, reinforcing the message that responsible citizenship also involves protecting nature and creating a healthier environment for future generations.

Ashok Kumar, Chairman of the District Child Welfare Committee, provided students with information about the history and design of India’s national flag.

He explained that the original design of the Indian Tricolour was prepared by freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya and that the national flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947.

He also explained the proportions and symbolism associated with the national flag. The Tricolour has a length-to-width ratio of 3:2 and consists of three horizontal bands.

The saffron band represents courage and sacrifice, while the white band signifies truth and peace. The green band represents prosperity.

At the centre of the white band is the deep-blue Ashoka Chakra, which has 24 spokes. The students were briefed about the significance of the national flag and the importance of treating it with dignity and respect.

Ashok Kumar urged citizens to participate actively in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and display the national flag at their homes as an expression of national pride.

He said the message of “Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Dil Tiranga” can help strengthen the feelings of unity, integrity and national pride among citizens.

The programme also highlighted the importance of introducing children to national symbols and the country’s history at an early age. Organisers said that educational institutions have an important role in helping students understand the significance of Independence Day beyond the ceremonial aspects of the occasion.

The presence of representatives from the District Child Welfare Committee and District Child Protection Unit provided an additional focus on the well-being and development of children.

The officials encouraged students to participate in community-oriented activities and develop a sense of responsibility towards society.

The programme also sought to connect patriotism with positive social values. Students were encouraged to understand that respect for the country can be expressed through responsible citizenship, environmental protection, social harmony and respect for national symbols.

The plantation activity reflected this broader message by encouraging students to contribute directly towards a greener environment.

The organisers said that the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign provides an opportunity for families, schools and communities to come together around the national flag and reinforce the values of unity and national pride.

The school management expressed appreciation to the visiting officials and members of the child welfare and protection institutions for participating in the programme and interacting with students.

Legal Officer Ranjan Sharma, along with Gaurav Sharma, school manager Rajbir Singh, and principals Shivam and Shruti, expressed gratitude to the guests, organisers and participants for contributing to the successful conduct of the programme.

The school authorities said such programmes help students develop a stronger connection with national occasions and encourage them to understand the values associated with India’s freedom and constitutional democracy.

The programme concluded with an appeal to citizens to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and hoist the national flag at their homes while maintaining its dignity.

The organisers reiterated that the campaign is not simply about displaying the Tricolour but also about remembering the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and strengthening the values of unity, integrity, responsibility and national pride.

The event at SD Public School, Sherpur Mod, thus brought together patriotism, child welfare, remembrance of sacrifice and environmental awareness, giving students an opportunity to participate in a meaningful Independence Day activity.
