A 44-year-old man who had been missing for the past two days was found dead in a water-filled pit in agricultural fields near Mandhar village of Yamunanagar district on Thursday morning, triggering concern among local residents. The deceased was identified as Krishna Kumar, a resident of Gyanewala village and father of two children. Police have initiated an investigation and said the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination.
According to police, Krishna Kumar had left his home on Tuesday but failed to return by evening. His family members searched for him extensively at possible locations and contacted relatives and acquaintances, but no information about his whereabouts could be found. After their efforts proved unsuccessful, his son Shivam approached Sadar Jagadhri Police Station on Wednesday night, where a missing person report was registered and a search operation was launched.
During the investigation, police recovered Krishna Kumar’s slippers from fields near Mandhar village, raising suspicion that he may have entered the waterlogged agricultural area. However, continuous rainfall had left the fields submerged, making it difficult for search teams to conduct a thorough operation. As a result, police continued monitoring the area while waiting for the water level to recede.
On Thursday morning, after the accumulated rainwater began to subside, villagers noticed a body lying inside a water-filled pit in the fields. They immediately alerted the police and informed the deceased’s family. A police team reached the spot, secured the area and completed the necessary legal formalities before shifting the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Investigating Officer Hari Ram said preliminary findings suggest that Krishna Kumar may have accidentally fallen into the water-filled pit while under the influence of alcohol. However, police have clarified that no final conclusion has been drawn at this stage and all possible angles are being examined. The actual cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
Family members told investigators that Krishna Kumar had a habit of consuming alcohol. They said he had left home as usual on Tuesday but never returned, causing growing concern among the family. His sudden death has left relatives and villagers in deep shock.
Police said the post-mortem report will play a crucial role in determining the circumstances surrounding the death. If any suspicious facts emerge during the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken accordingly. Officials added that the case remains under investigation and all aspects are being verified before arriving at a final conclusion.
