Heavy vehicles barred from Ambala–Haridwar route as district police enforce diversion plan to ensure safe and smooth pilgrimage.

The Yamunanagar Police have intensified security and traffic management arrangements for Kanwar Yatra-2026, with Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal (IPS) directing all police units to remain on high alert to ensure the pilgrimage is conducted peacefully, safely and without disruption.
According to the police spokesperson, comprehensive security measures have been put in place across the district following the SP’s directions. Station House Officers, traffic police personnel and other concerned officials have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance along Kanwar routes, regulate traffic effectively and ensure that devotees can undertake the pilgrimage in a secure environment while minimising inconvenience to the general public.
SP Kamaldeep Goyal said the safety of Kanwariyas, smooth traffic movement and maintenance of law and order remain the district police’s highest priorities. He warned that any attempt to create disorder, violate traffic regulations, indulge in hooliganism or disturb public peace during the yatra would be dealt with firmly. Police teams will continue round-the-clock patrolling and monitoring along the pilgrimage routes.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar, the nodal officer for the Kanwar Yatra, announced that heavy vehicles travelling from Ambala towards Saharanpur and Haridwar will not be permitted on the designated Kanwar routes due to the increased movement of pilgrims.
Under the revised traffic plan, heavy vehicles coming from Ambala will be diverted via Chhapar–Pabni–Bilaspur–Paonta Sahib, while vehicles heading towards Saharanpur will be routed through Chhachhrauli–Behat. Police clarified that the restricted stretch will remain completely closed to heavy vehicles in both directions for the duration of the diversion.
Authorities have appealed to truck operators and commercial vehicle drivers to strictly follow the notified diversion routes and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed across the district.
The Superintendent of Police also urged devotees, Kanwar camp organisers, motorists and residents to extend full cooperation to the police administration by following traffic rules and maintaining discipline throughout the pilgrimage. He assured that the district police would remain deployed 24×7 to ensure the safety, security and convenience of all devotees during the annual religious event.
