State approves Haryana’s first Street Food Hub, Mahabharata-themed junctions and major tourism projects to boost pilgrim experience

Haryana Urban Local Bodies, Revenue, Disaster Management and Civil Aviation Minister Vipul Goyal has announced a series of ambitious projects to transform Kurukshetra into a world-class religious and tourism destination. Chairing a review meeting with the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) and civic officials, the minister said the government is committed to developing the holy city with modern infrastructure while preserving its spiritual heritage.
Calling Kurukshetra the sacred land where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita, Goyal said the city deserves global recognition as a centre of religious, cultural and heritage tourism. He directed the KDB and Urban Local Bodies to prepare a comprehensive development blueprint through reputed planning agencies.

The minister said the Centre’s Urban Challenge Fund would support the redevelopment of one key road each in Kurukshetra, Ladwa and Pehowa with improved streetscapes, lighting, parks and public amenities. He assured officials that the state government would provide adequate financial support for quality infrastructure projects.
One of the major announcements was the approval of Haryana’s first Street Food Hub, which will be developed over nearly two acres at the KDB fairground before the upcoming International Gita Jayanti Mahotsav. The project, estimated at around ₹4 crore, will feature dedicated North Indian and South Indian food zones and accommodate registered vendors.
The minister also approved the development of eight major city intersections based on Mahabharata themes, while the iconic Gita Dwar will be redesigned to enhance its visibility from the National Highway.
KDB Honorary Secretary Upendra Singhal proposed several additional projects, including a 6.5-km Hari Har Pedestrian Path connecting Brahma Sarovar with Jyotisar, an Eight-Kos Parikrama Path linking important temples and a Shiv-Shakti Corridor connecting Bhadrakali Shaktipeeth with Sthaneshwar Mahadev Temple to strengthen the city’s religious tourism circuit.

Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goyal has announced that a modern hockey astroturf equipped with advanced facilities will be developed on vacant land adjoining Dronacharya Stadium in Kurukshetra under a Chief Minister’s announcement. The project aims to further strengthen the state’s sports infrastructure and nurture future sporting talent.
During a review meeting with district officials, Goyal directed the Sports Department to expedite the construction of the hockey astroturf, while the Municipal Council will develop the remaining infrastructure, including an indoor stadium, for which he also gave in-principle approval.
Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena informed the minister that the hockey stadium project forms part of the Chief Minister’s announcements, while Municipal Council officials presented plans for the proposed indoor sports complex.

Addressing the media, Goyal said Haryana’s sports policy has transformed the state into a recognised sporting powerhouse over the past decade. He credited the government’s athlete-friendly initiatives, including financial assistance, sports infrastructure, nutritious diet support, cash rewards and government jobs for medal winners, for the state’s growing success at national and international events.
Congratulating Haryana athletes who recently won medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the minister said their achievements have further strengthened the state’s identity as the “land of champions.”
He also announced that Tiranga Yatras will be organised across all Assembly constituencies in Haryana as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will flag off the state-wide campaign from Kurukshetra on August 10, he said.
