Civic authorities launch plantation drive to promote environmental protection, improve cleanliness and create a more pleasant surroundings

The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri has launched a major plantation initiative around the Kail Waste Processing Plant, with around 3,500 saplings of different varieties planned to be planted in the area. The initiative aims to strengthen environmental protection, increase green cover and develop a cleaner, greener and more pleasant environment around the waste processing facility. The plantation drive was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by Mayor Suman Bahmani, MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora, Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad and Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, who planted saplings at the site. Several officials and employees of the Municipal Corporation also participated in the campaign and planted saplings as part of the initiative. Among those present and participating in the plantation activity were Municipal Corporation Executive Engineer Harish Kumar, Assistant Engineers Surendra Dahiya and Rajesh Sharma, Junior Engineers Abhishek Sharma, Vishal and Harinder Kumar, along with other officials and employees. Mayor Suman Bahmani said around 3,500 saplings of different species would be planted around the Kail Waste Processing Plant. She said the plantation would not be restricted to a single category of plants, but would include fragrant flowering plants as well as fruit-bearing, medicinal and ornamental varieties. According to the Mayor, once the plants grow, the area surrounding the waste processing plant will have substantially more greenery. The initiative is expected to improve the visual appearance of the surroundings while also contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. She said the Municipal Corporation was focusing not only on the development of civic infrastructure but also on environmental conservation. Increasing green cover across the city, she added, would help create a better environment for residents and contribute to the overall improvement of urban surroundings. “Plantation is only the first step; the plants also need to be protected and cared for,” the Mayor said, stressing that arrangements would be made to ensure their proper growth. She said the Municipal Corporation would focus on the upkeep of the saplings so that they could survive and develop into mature trees and plants. The plantation initiative assumes particular significance because the saplings are being planted around a waste processing facility. Developing a green belt around such an area can help improve the overall appearance of the site and create a more natural and attractive landscape. The inclusion of flowering and fragrant plants is also expected to add to the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings once the plantation matures. MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora appreciated the Municipal Corporation’s initiative and said environmental protection had become one of the major requirements of the present time. He appealed to citizens to participate actively in plantation activities and, equally importantly, to take responsibility for protecting the plants after they are planted. Arora said merely planting saplings would not be sufficient unless they were regularly watered and protected from damage. Every citizen, he said, should contribute to environmental conservation by planting trees and ensuring their survival. He described the development of greenery around the waste processing plant as a positive step that could bring a visible change to the area. The initiative, he said, would not only improve the surroundings but also create a more positive atmosphere for people living and working nearby. Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad said the objective of developing a green belt around the waste processing plant was to combine environmental protection with efforts to make the area cleaner and more attractive. He said special attention would be given to the maintenance of the saplings after plantation. Arrangements would be made for their protection, irrigation and regular upkeep so that the plants could grow safely. With proper maintenance, he said, the plantation could gradually develop into a dense green area in the coming years. The Commissioner also appealed to residents to contribute to environmental conservation by planting more trees and taking responsibility for their care. He emphasised that environmental protection was not the responsibility of civic authorities alone and required active participation from the community. The Municipal Corporation’s plantation drive reflects an effort to integrate environmental considerations with urban civic management.
