The Municipal Corporation will undertake development works worth ₹21.62 lakh in Ward 6 of Jagadhri, covering the construction of two key streets along with underground drainage systems in Basant Nagar and Sawanpuri. Mayor Suman Bahmani laid the foundation stones for the projects on Wednesday in the presence of former minister Kanwar Pal and councillor Ankit Goyal, formally marking the beginning of the construction work.
The foundation ceremony was held at the respective sites, where the Mayor performed the traditional inauguration by breaking a coconut. The projects are aimed at improving road connectivity and addressing drainage-related problems faced by residents of the two localities.
Giving details of the proposed works, Mayor Suman Bahmani said a street in Basant Nagar would be constructed from the house of Vikrant Tyagi to the house of Vijay Oberoi. Another street would be constructed in Sawanpuri from the house of Sudhir Aggarwal to the house of Vimal Chopra.
Along with the construction of the two streets, RCC NP-2 underground drains will also be developed at both locations. The integrated road and drainage works are expected to improve movement in the neighbourhoods and provide residents relief from problems related to water drainage.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said the Municipal Corporation was undertaking development works in every ward on a priority basis. She said special attention was being given to improving roads, streets, drains and other basic civic amenities so that residents could benefit from better infrastructure and improved public facilities.
She said the civic body was focusing on development according to the requirements of different areas. Local infrastructure, she added, needs regular improvement because roads and drainage systems directly affect the daily lives of residents.
The Mayor also stressed that there would be no compromise on the quality of development works. She said officials had been directed to regularly monitor construction activities to ensure that the projects were executed according to the prescribed standards.
Regular supervision, she said, would be important to ensure that construction work progresses properly and that residents receive durable infrastructure. The concerned officials will therefore be required to keep a close watch on the progress and quality of the works.
The projects in Basant Nagar and Sawanpuri are particularly significant for local residents because the construction of streets and underground drainage is being taken up together. Better drainage can help manage wastewater and rainwater more effectively, while improved streets can make daily movement easier for residents.
Former minister Kanwar Pal said the objective of the BJP government was to ensure that development facilities reached every part of the city. He said the works being undertaken in Ward 6 would provide considerable benefit to local residents.
Kanwar Pal said development priorities should be determined according to the requirements of individual areas. He added that other development works would also be undertaken on a priority basis based on local needs.
The foundation-laying programme brought together representatives of the Municipal Corporation, elected members and local residents. The presence of local representatives reflected the focus on taking up civic infrastructure projects in response to the requirements of neighbourhoods.
Councillor Ankit Goyal was present during the inauguration and participated in the foundation-laying ceremony. Local representatives and residents also attended the programme.
The two projects will cover important internal streets in Basant Nagar and Sawanpuri. The proposed underground drainage infrastructure is expected to complement the street construction and provide a more organised drainage system in the concerned areas.
