Young Taekwondo players showcase their skills during the district-level school selection competition in Yamunanagar.
District-level Taekwondo selection trials witness spirited performances as players secure berths for state-level competition

School-level sporting competitions provide the first and most important platform for identifying young talent and preparing promising athletes for state and national-level competitions, AEO Gopal Singh said during the district-level school Taekwondo selection competition held at the Taekwondo Sports Academy Haryana.
The competition was organised by the District Education Department under the supervision of Gopal Singh, with players from several schools across Yamunanagar district participating enthusiastically. Athletes competed in different age and weight categories, showcasing their technique, fitness, discipline and sporting skills to stake their claim for the state-level competition.
In the girls’ category, Kashvi, Vanshika, Manvi Chauhan, Yashika, Japlin Kaur, Mannat, Parineeta, Tamanna and Ananya delivered strong performances and secured places in their respective weight categories.
In the boys’ category, Atharva, Rudra, Mukund, Divyansh Dhiman, Deepanshu, Shaurikde, Darpan, Ayush Vishwakarma, Atharva Thakur, Devkumar, Ayush and Kartik, among others, impressed with their performances and earned selection for the next level of competition.
Gopal Singh said the education department was committed to providing talented school athletes with fair selection opportunities and the necessary platform to progress. “Our effort is to ensure that every talented player gets a fair chance to move ahead,” he said.
Players from Arya Kanya Senior Secondary School, Jagadhri; DAV Police Line; DAV Public School; Mukund Lal Public School; Swami Vivekanand Public School, Camp; Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, Jagadhri; New Happy Public School; Swami Vivekanand Public School, Sector-17; SD Public School, Jagadhri; Springdales Public School, Jagadhri; Bloomberg School, Yamunanagar and other institutions participated in the trials.
International Taekwondo coach and national referee Prabhakar Sharma said school-level competitions form the foundation for producing future champions. He said Taekwondo not only develops sporting ability but also promotes discipline, confidence, physical fitness and self-defence skills among children.
He appreciated the efforts of the District Education Department and said better coordination among schools, the education department and coaches could help create a strong talent pipeline in the district.
National referees Prabhjot Singh, Shaurya Sharma, Anjali, Arpit and Vansh Virdi, along with other technical officials and volunteers, contributed to the smooth and fair conduct of the competition.
The event concluded with best wishes to all selected players for their upcoming state-level contests.
