Under-construction shed and Material Recovery Facility expected to ensure uninterrupted waste processing throughout the year

Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad on Sunday inspected the ongoing construction of a ₹7.24-crore shed and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Centre at the Kail Solid Waste Management Plant, reviewing the quality of construction and the progress of the project aimed at strengthening the city’s waste management infrastructure. During the inspection, the Commissioner examined the construction materials, structural work and various waste processing operations at the plant. Officials informed him that after strengthening the base of the site, large concrete pillars are being erected to support the proposed shed. Mahabir Prasad said the covered facility would enable round-the-clock waste processing and segregation, ensuring that operations continue even during the monsoon. He noted that the project would help prevent delays in waste disposal while protecting machinery from rain-related damage. The Commissioner, accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, Executive Engineer Harish Kumar, Assistant Engineer Surender Dahiya, Chief Sanitary Inspector Harjit Singh, and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Consultant Lokesh Sen, also reviewed the functioning of the Material Recovery Facility. Officials briefed the inspection team on the segregation of municipal waste into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), bio-soil and construction debris, along with the production of organic compost through the bio-remediation process. The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the quality of the ongoing work and the waste management processes being implemented at the facility. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar informed the Commissioner that construction of the shed is progressing rapidly and that installation of the roof structure will begin once the support pillars are completed.  Mahabir Prasad said the absence of a covered facility had often disrupted waste processing during heavy rainfall, affecting machinery and creating operational difficulties for workers. He added that the new infrastructure would ensure uninterrupted waste treatment, improve operational efficiency and help prevent the accumulation of untreated waste at the plant. The Commissioner directed officials to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe so that the upgraded facility can be made operational at the earliest.
