Deputy Commissioner Preeti has urged citizens, institutions and organisations to actively participate in the nomination process for the Padma Awards 2027, encouraging them to identify and recommend individuals whose exceptional contributions to society deserve national recognition.
The Deputy Commissioner said the Ministry of Home Affairs has invited online nominations and recommendations for the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards, which will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2027. The last date for submitting nominations is July 31, 2026.
She informed that nominations will be accepted only through the National Awards Portal, and applicants are required to submit their recommendations online along with a detailed citation of up to 800 words, clearly highlighting the nominee’s outstanding achievements, exceptional service and contributions in the relevant field.
DC Preeti appealed to the public to help identify deserving individuals, particularly women, members of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), economically weaker sections, persons with disabilities and individuals engaged in selfless service to society, whose remarkable work often goes unnoticed despite making a meaningful impact.
“The objective is to ensure that talented and dedicated individuals from every section of society receive the recognition they truly deserve,” she said.
The Deputy Commissioner noted that the Padma Awards—comprising the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri—are among India’s highest civilian honours. Instituted in 1954, these prestigious awards are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day to honour individuals who have rendered distinguished and exceptional service in their respective fields.
She said the awards recognise excellence across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry, among several other fields.
Emphasising the inclusive nature of the honours, DC Preeti said all eligible Indian citizens, irrespective of caste, profession, position or gender, can be considered for the awards if they have made extraordinary contributions in their chosen domain.
She, however, clarified that government employees working in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) are generally not eligible for Padma Awards, except for doctors and scientists, who remain eligible under the prescribed guidelines.
The district administration has appealed to educational institutions, professional bodies, social organisations, industry associations and members of the public to make full use of the nomination process and recommend deserving personalities whose achievements have brought distinction to society and the nation.
Officials added that detailed eligibility criteria, rules and nomination guidelines are available on the National Awards Portal, where applications must be submitted before the closing date.
