20-year-old BA student rushed to hospital after complaining of a bite while asleep; snake remains untraced as officials investigate the incident

A 20-year-old college student died during treatment after a suspected snakebite at her residence in Maa Colony, Jagadhri, Yamunanagar, late Saturday night. Wildlife officials have launched a search operation to trace the snake and determine its species.The deceased has been identified as Shabnam, a second-year BA student at the Government College in Chhachhrauli. According to her family, she was sleeping in the same room with her mother and sisters when she suddenly woke up and complained that something had bitten her on the neck. Her mother immediately switched on the light and reportedly saw a snake slithering away from the bed. The family rushed Shabnam to the Civil Hospital without delay, where doctors initiated treatment. Despite medical efforts, she could not be saved. Shabnam’s sister, Shweta, said the family lives in a rented house in Maa Colony. Their father, Satender, works as a daily-wage labourer. The family comprises three sisters and one brother.
