Deputy Commissioner Preeti warns officials against delays, stresses prompt grievance redressal and citizen-friendly governance

Deputy Commissioner Preeti, while chairing the meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee, issued firm directions to government departments to ensure the timely disposal of public complaints and improve citizen services.
During the meeting, 15 pre-listed grievances were taken up for consideration. Of these, 10 complaints were resolved on the spot, while the remaining five cases were kept pending with specific instructions to the concerned departments to submit progress reports before the next meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that every government office must respond to public grievances with sensitivity, transparency and accountability, adding that unnecessary delays in resolving complaints would not be tolerated.
Among the key cases discussed, a complaint regarding an alleged illegal colony in Basant Nagar was ordered to be dealt with strictly in accordance with the court’s final decision. Another complaint involving a police matter was directed to proceed through the registration of an FIR and will be reviewed in the next meeting.
A dispute found to be of a private nature was resolved through mutual consent between the parties and subsequently closed.
In a labour-related complaint, the Assistant Labour Commissioner was instructed to complete the inquiry within 15 days, while a Municipal Corporation-related matter was kept pending with directions for necessary action.
The committee also disposed of a complaint concerning a tubewell electricity connection after the power department confirmed that the connection had been released to the complainant.
Another dispute was amicably settled after both parties appeared before the committee, leading to its closure.
In a banking-related grievance, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned bank officials to present complete facts during the next meeting, warning that strict action could be initiated in case of non-compliance.
Reviewing complaints related to public infrastructure, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure immediate cleaning of drains before the peak monsoon season to prevent waterlogging and sanitation issues.
During discussions on a road accident-related complaint, she stressed the importance of assisting accident victims without hesitation.
“The life of an injured person can often be saved if timely medical assistance is provided. Citizens who help accident victims are protected under the law and may also be recognised by the government,” she said.
The committee also reviewed complaints related to the Tehsil Office, drainage issues in Ambli village, excessive electricity billing and an agriculture department dispute. While some matters were referred to departmental teams for further verification, others were resolved through corrective action or mutual settlement.
Deputy Commissioner Preeti directed all departments to ensure that public grievances are disposed of within the prescribed time and instructed officials to maintain courteous behaviour with citizens visiting government offices.
Speaking during the meeting, Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora said the objective of every government officer should be to resolve complaints promptly so that citizens do not have to repeatedly approach authorities for the same issue.
