Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday reviewed an ambitious roadmap for the future development of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri during a special exhibition organised by the Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri at the PWD Rest House, Jagadhri. The exhibition highlighted the city’s ongoing infrastructure projects, sanitation initiatives, environmental conservation efforts and long-term urban development plans aimed at transforming Yamunanagar into a cleaner, smarter and more sustainable city.

After visiting the exhibition, the Chief Minister appreciated the Municipal Corporation’s efforts in implementing development projects and promoting cleanliness through innovative initiatives. He interacted with civic officials, examined various project models in detail and sought comprehensive information about the city’s proposed infrastructure and environmental plans.

One of the major attractions of the exhibition was the presentation of the city’s Master Drainage Plan, designed to provide a long-term solution to the problem of waterlogging. Officials explained that the scientific drainage strategy has been prepared with a vision to effectively manage stormwater and urban flooding for the next 50 years, ensuring better civic infrastructure and resilience against heavy rainfall.

The exhibition also featured detailed presentations on the proposed River Waterfront Development Project, which aims to transform the riverfront into an attractive recreational and tourism destination while enhancing the city’s urban landscape. The Chief Minister showed keen interest in the project and discussed its potential to improve public spaces, encourage tourism and provide better recreational facilities for residents.

Another key proposal presented before the Chief Minister was the construction of a state-of-the-art auditorium and an Open Air Theatre, envisioned as modern cultural venues for hosting educational, artistic and community events. Officials also briefed him about the proposed new Municipal Corporation office building, which is expected to improve administrative efficiency and enhance public service delivery.

The development plan for Hamida Park was also showcased during the exhibition. The project aims to transform the park into a modern green public space equipped with improved landscaping, recreational amenities and environmentally friendly infrastructure for families and visitors.

Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad personally briefed the Chief Minister on these flagship projects, explaining their significance in strengthening urban infrastructure and improving the quality of life for citizens. They highlighted that the projects are designed not only to meet present-day civic needs but also to accommodate future urban growth.

Apart from infrastructure projects, the exhibition strongly focused on environmental sustainability and solid waste management. Visitors were introduced to models demonstrating the harmful effects of single-use plastic, the importance of source-level waste segregation, and the functioning of RRR (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) vehicles, which play a crucial role in promoting scientific waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Municipal officials explained how waste segregation at the household level helps improve recycling efficiency, reduces landfill waste and contributes to a cleaner urban environment. The Chief Minister appreciated these awareness initiatives and stressed the need for greater public participation in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment.

Officials from the Municipal Corporation’s Swachh Bharat Mission team also demonstrated various sanitation models and explained the operational mechanism of RRR vehicles, which collect reusable and recyclable materials from households. The presentation also highlighted the environmental damage caused by indiscriminate use of single-use plastic and the need for sustainable alternatives.

The Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associate Abhishruti, Chief Sanitation Inspector Vinod Beniwal, and members of the Swachh Bharat Mission team provided detailed information on the various civic and environmental initiatives being undertaken by the Municipal Corporation.

Commending the corporation’s proactive approach, Chief Minister Saini said urban development and cleanliness must progress together. He emphasised that while governments can create infrastructure and implement policies, lasting transformation is possible only through active participation of citizens.

He urged people to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, avoid single-use plastic, support waste segregation at source and actively contribute to making Yamunanagar one of Haryana’s cleanest and most environmentally sustainable cities.

The Chief Minister also expressed confidence that the proposed projects, including the River Waterfront, Hamida Park redevelopment, advanced drainage system and modern civic infrastructure, would significantly enhance the city’s urban landscape and improve the quality of life for residents in the years ahead.

The exhibition was attended by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, Mayor Suman Bahmani, former Minister Kanwar Pal, BJP District President Rajesh Sapra, Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad, Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, senior Municipal Corporation officials, public representatives and other dignitaries.

The event reflected the Haryana Government’s focus on sustainable urban development, modern civic infrastructure and community-driven cleanliness initiatives, reinforcing its vision of building future-ready cities through innovation, environmental responsibility and effective governance.
