Swachh Bharat Mission team educates students on four-bin waste segregation, hand hygiene and disease preventio

As part of the nationwide “Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao – Stop Diarrhoea Campaign,” the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) team of the Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation organised a cleanliness and health awareness programme at Sasouli Government Middle School in Ward No. 20.

The initiative, conducted under the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad, aimed to educate students about proper waste management, personal hygiene and effective measures to prevent diarrhoea and other sanitation-related diseases.

During the interactive session, Akash Kumar, IEC Expert with Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), explained the importance of source-level waste segregation and encouraged students to adopt responsible waste disposal practices both at home and in school. He introduced the four-bin segregation system, demonstrating how wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and domestic hazardous waste should be collected separately to improve recycling and scientific waste management.

Students were also sensitised to the importance of washing hands with soap before meals and after using the toilet, consuming safe drinking water and maintaining personal hygiene to reduce the risk of diarrhoeal diseases. The session highlighted how simple hygiene practices can significantly improve public health and prevent the spread of infections.

The Municipal Corporation team urged students to become ambassadors of cleanliness by spreading awareness among their families and neighbourhoods. Officials stressed that community participation and proper waste segregation are essential for building a cleaner, healthier and disease-free society.

The programme concluded with a pledge by students to adopt hygienic habits, practise waste segregation in their daily lives and actively support the Swachh Bharat Mission’s vision of creating clean and healthy communities.
