The Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation organised a capacity-building programme for door-to-door waste collection workers on Friday at Heera Petrol Pump on Workshop Road. The initiative focused on strengthening sanitation practices, personal hygiene and safe working methods among employees engaged in the city’s waste collection system.

Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad were associated with the programme. The Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) team briefed the workers on essential aspects of cleanliness, personal protection and safe waste-handling practices. SBM experts Akash Kumar and Gagan Beniwal led the awareness session.

Workers Briefed on PPE Kits and Safe Practices

During the programme, employees were made aware of the proper and mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits. They were also advised to follow prescribed safety standards while carrying out collection duties and to understand the importance of segregating waste at its source.

The experts stressed that protective equipment should be used regularly and correctly during field work. Maintaining personal cleanliness after handling waste and following safe work practices are important measures for reducing possible health risks faced by collection workers.

Target of 100% Door-to-Door Collection

The workers were instructed to ensure 100 per cent door-to-door waste collection from every household in the city. They were also asked to encourage residents to hand over wet and dry waste separately so that segregation at source could be implemented effectively.

The message to residents is central to the success of the system: household waste should be separated into wet and dry categories before it is handed over to collection staff. Consistent cooperation from citizens can help workers maintain a more organised collection process and support the civic body’s waste-management objectives.

Personal Hygiene and Employee Safety

SBM expert Akash Kumar explained that personal hygiene and the regular use of safety equipment are essential during waste collection. He said that using PPE kits helps workers protect themselves from potential health risks associated with their duties.

The session underlined that sanitation workers play an important role in maintaining public cleanliness and that their own safety must remain a priority. Awareness of protective equipment, safe handling and personal hygiene can contribute to a safer working environment.

Towards a Cleaner Yamunanagar-Jagadhri

The main objective of the capacity-building programme was to make waste collection more effective, improve employees’ work efficiency and ensure their safety. The municipal corporation aims to achieve complete door-to-door collection and effective segregation through cooperation between its staff and residents.

The corporation’s effort is to make Yamunanagar-Jagadhri cleaner, healthier and free from waste. The programme reinforced the importance of a coordinated approach in which trained collection workers follow safe practices and citizens support the system by separating wet and dry waste at home.

NEWS NOTE

The Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation’s capacity-building programme focused on safe waste collection, mandatory use of PPE kits, personal hygiene and the goal of 100 per cent household waste collection with wet and dry waste segregation at source.
