Sant Nischal Singh College of Education for Women, Santpura, Yamunanagar, organised a one-day extension lecture on “Nutrition, Diet and Hygiene” to raise awareness among students about balanced eating habits, personal cleanliness and healthy living. Dr Prabhjot Kaur of Guru Nanak Girls College was the keynote speaker at the programme.

During the lecture, Dr Kaur explained the importance of essential nutrients in everyday life and shared practical suggestions for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She emphasised that balanced nutrition and basic hygiene practices are important for supporting overall well-being and reducing the risk of infections.

She highlighted the value of including fruits, green vegetables and whole grains in daily meals. A varied and balanced diet can help provide the nutrients required by the body, while regular handwashing before preparing or eating food remains a simple but important measure for maintaining hygiene.

Balanced Nutrition for Healthy Growth

Officiating Principal Dr Jaspreet Kaur said that balanced nutrition and the inclusion of nutritious foods in daily meals are important for physical development and healthy growth. She stressed that children and young people need appropriate nourishment to support their development and day-to-day activities.

She also noted that hygiene habits play an important role in helping children remain healthy and participate effectively in studies and sports. Regular personal care and safe food-handling practices can help students develop habits that benefit them both at school and at home.

Hygiene and Awareness in Everyday Life

Personal hygiene was another key focus of the lecture. Simple practices, including washing hands before handling food and maintaining cleanliness in daily routines, can help reduce exposure to germs and lower the risk of certain infections.

The discussion also underlined the value of spreading health awareness among young women. Mrs Manju Grover, who conducted the programme, said that awareness about nutrition and hygiene was particularly important for female students because women often play a significant role in household food choices and family well-being.

She encouraged students to use the information shared during the lecture in their own lives and to promote healthy habits within their families. Better awareness can help individuals make more informed decisions about food, cleanliness and daily routines.

Programme Concludes with Vote of Thanks

The extension lecture provided students with an opportunity to learn about balanced diets, personal hygiene and practical steps for maintaining a healthier lifestyle. The emphasis remained on adopting simple, consistent habits that can support well-being at home and in educational settings.

Mrs Manju Grover conducted the programme and delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Dr Prabhjot Kaur for sharing her knowledge and addressing the students.
