Special Cell seizes country-made pistol and live cartridge; repeat offender remanded for further investigation

The Special Cell of Yamunanagar Police has arrested a man allegedly carrying an illegal firearm during an intelligence-led operation in Vyaspur, recovering a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from his possession.

According to police, the operation was launched after the Special Cell received credible information that a youth armed with an illegal weapon was moving near the Old Ravidas Temple in Vyaspur.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar, along with ASI Jasjit and other Special Cell personnel, reached the spot and apprehended the suspect.

During a search, officers recovered a country-made pistol (desi katta) and one live cartridge. The accused was identified as Vansh, son of Satish Kumar, a resident of Bedi Colony, Vyaspur. Police registered a case against the accused under the Arms Act and produced him before a local court, which granted police remand for further interrogation.

Investigators are now probing the source of the illegal weapon and whether the accused has links to other criminal activities. Special Cell In-charge Raman Chandel said the accused is already facing two criminal cases, both of which are currently pending before the court.

Emphasising the district police’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms, Chandel said unlawful possession of firearms poses a serious threat to public safety and often fuels violent crime. He appealed to citizens to immediately inform the police if they receive any information regarding the possession, sale or movement of illegal weapons, assuring that the identity of informants would remain strictly confidential.

“The campaign against illegal firearms will continue with full force to strengthen law and order and ensure the safety of the public,” he added.
