Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, Yamunanagar district police is continuing its awareness campaign in educational institutions to help children and young people understand personal safety, cybercrime prevention, emergency response and the harmful effects of substance abuse.

As part of the initiative, ASI Neelam of the Safe City Team conducted an awareness programme at Government School Tejli. She interacted with students and discussed a range of issues directly connected with their safety, responsible behaviour and awareness of situations that may put them at risk.

Students Taught About Good Touch and Bad Touch

During the programme, ASI Neelam explained the concepts of good touch and bad touch in simple and age-appropriate language. Students were told that if anyone behaves inappropriately with them, they should not remain silent because of fear, embarrassment or hesitation.

They were encouraged to immediately speak to their parents, teachers or another trusted adult if they experience or witness behaviour that makes them uncomfortable or unsafe. The emphasis was on helping children understand that asking for help is an important part of protecting themselves.

The students were also informed that in an emergency they can seek immediate assistance by calling 112. The police advised them to remain calm, communicate the situation clearly and seek help rather than attempting to deal with a serious emergency on their own.

Cyber Safety Becomes Part of School Awareness

A significant part of the interaction focused on the increasing risks associated with cybercrime and unsafe online behaviour. Students were advised to use social media responsibly and to be careful about the information they make available online.

Police officials cautioned students against sharing personal or sensitive information with unknown people. They were also advised not to click on suspicious links and to remain alert to messages, offers or requests that could be attempts at online fraud.

The students were told that if a cybercrime occurs, the matter should be reported to the police without delay. Early reporting can help authorities respond to an incident and take appropriate steps according to the circumstances of the case.

Message Against Drug Abuse

The awareness session also addressed the harmful effects of drug abuse. ASI Neelam explained that substance abuse can have serious consequences for a person’s health and can also affect education, future prospects, family relationships and the wider community.

Students were encouraged to stay away from drugs and to avoid situations in which they may be pressured into experimenting with harmful substances. They were also urged to create awareness among friends and family members and to seek the support of trusted adults if they encounter a situation involving substance abuse.

The police message focused on prevention and awareness, particularly among young people. Students were encouraged to understand that choices made during their school years can have a lasting effect on their education, health and future.

Students Interact With Police Officials

The programme was conducted as an interactive session rather than a one-way lecture. Students asked police officials questions on different subjects related to personal safety, online behaviour, emergency assistance and law enforcement. Their questions were answered during the programme.

The police appealed to students to follow the law, remain alert and immediately report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities. The interaction was intended to help students understand that awareness and timely communication can play an important role in preventing harm.

Police to Continue Awareness Drive

The district police said that similar awareness programmes would continue to be organised in educational institutions. The objective is to strengthen awareness among children and young people about personal safety, cybercrime prevention, the dangers of drugs and the importance of responsible citizenship.

Such school-level interactions also provide students with an opportunity to communicate directly with police personnel and seek clarification on concerns that may otherwise remain unaddressed. Regular awareness sessions can help keep safety messages visible and encourage students to seek timely assistance when required.

The Tejli programme thus brought together three important areas of youth awareness—personal protection, digital safety and prevention of substance abuse—while also reminding students of the role they can play in maintaining a safe environment around them.
