5,000 People to Join Safai Mahakumbh in Yamunanagar on October 7
Yamunanagar is preparing for a large-scale cleanliness campaign on October 7, when around 5,000 people are expected to come together for a Safai Mahakumbh in Model Town. The Municipal Corporation plans to involve civic employees, government departments, social and religious organisations, voluntary groups, educational institutions and residents in the mega cleanliness drive, with the stated aim of strengthening public participation in the city’s sanitation efforts.
Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad gave details of the proposed campaign during a meeting with councillors and officials at the Municipal Corporation office. He said preparations were being accelerated and urged councillors to encourage maximum participation from their respective wards.
According to the administration, people interested in participating can register until October 3. Each registered participant will be issued an identity card for the campaign. The administration has also said that a Guinness World Records team is expected to be present to document the large-scale participation, subject to the applicable verification process.
Model Town to Become the Centre of the Campaign
The main cleanliness activities will be carried out around Nehru Park in Model Town and adjoining areas and streets. The campaign is being planned as a coordinated operation so that a large number of participants can work together while sanitation arrangements, manpower, equipment, safety and traffic management remain organised.
Mahabir Prasad said the campaign would not be limited to Municipal Corporation officials and employees. Participants are expected from different government departments, social and religious organisations, voluntary groups, schools and colleges, educational institutions and neighbourhoods across the city.
The broad participation plan is intended to give the campaign a community character. By involving residents alongside municipal teams, the administration hopes to create greater awareness about keeping public spaces clean and encouraging citizens to take shared responsibility for the condition of their surroundings.
Registration and Participation
Registration for the Safai Mahakumbh will remain open until October 3. The Municipal Corporation has encouraged people from all sections of the city to take part. Registered participants will receive identification cards, which will help the organisers manage participation during the event.
Councillors have been asked to mobilise residents in their wards and communicate the purpose and arrangements of the campaign. The emphasis during the meeting was on ensuring that participation is broad-based rather than confined to official staff or organised groups.
Officials Told to Complete Arrangements on Time
The Municipal Commissioner directed officials to complete all arrangements well before the campaign. These include cleanliness arrangements, resources, deployment of employees, safety measures and traffic management. Departments were also asked to coordinate with participating institutions and ensure that necessary communication reaches the organisations expected to join the drive.
Letters are to be issued to various institutions and organisations inviting them to participate. The administration has stressed that advance planning will be important because of the expected size of the gathering and the need to maintain normal civic arrangements in and around Model Town during the campaign.
More Than a One-Day Cleanliness Drive
Mahabir Prasad described the Safai Mahakumbh as more than a one-day cleaning exercise. He said the broader objective is to create public awareness about cleanliness and strengthen a sense of collective responsibility among residents.
The campaign is being organised under the wider Seva Sankalp-related civic activities around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, according to the information provided by the Municipal Corporation. The event itself is focused on sanitation and public participation, with the planned activity centred on Model Town and its surrounding public spaces.
Officials and councillors attending the meeting included Assistant Engineer Mrinal Jaiswal, Chief Sanitation Inspectors Vinod Beniwal and Govind Sharma, Mukta, Lokesh, councillors Arun Kumar, Bhavna Bittu, Tilak Raj, Sunaina Sharma, Manu Krishna Singla, Sandeep Dhiman, Dixit Kumar, Ujjwal Banyal, Harjit Anand, Vikram Rana and Manjit Kaur, along with councillor representatives Pawan Bittu, Rahul and Madan Kumar, among others.
The Municipal Corporation has appealed to city residents to participate in the campaign in large numbers. If the planned participation reaches the stated level, the October 7 programme will bring together thousands of people at one location for a coordinated public cleanliness activity. The administration’s immediate focus, however, remains registration, mobilisation and completion of logistical arrangements before the event.
