Inner Wheel Club Jagadhri Yamunanagar holds thalassemia camp at Civil Hospital with specialist consultations

Specialist Consultation and HLA Testing Offered
A special medical camp for children affected by thalassemia was organised at Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, by Inner Wheel Club Jagadhri Yamunanagar, District 308. The initiative brought children and their parents together with specialist doctors for medical consultation, diagnostic support and detailed information about treatment options, including bone marrow transplantation.
The camp was facilitated through Dr Vikas Dua of Fortis Hospital. Dr Vaibhav Chadha and Bharati Sharma, Senior Manager from Fortis Gurugram, also attended the programme. Dr Chadha interacted with children and their parents, explained key aspects of thalassemia and bone marrow transplantation, and responded to questions raised by families during the consultation.
HLA testing was also conducted during the camp. Human leukocyte antigen, or HLA, testing is used to assess tissue compatibility between a patient and a potential donor and is an important part of the process of identifying a suitable donor for a transplant.
Full-Day OPD Provides Guidance to Families
A full-day OPD was available for children and their families. Doctors assessed the children’s reported needs and provided medical advice and guidance related to further care and treatment. The arrangement allowed families to discuss their concerns directly with specialists and understand the next steps relevant to their children’s condition.
During the interaction, Dr Vaibhav Chadha explained the bone marrow transplantation process in accessible terms. He said that transplantation can be a treatment option for some children with thalassemia, subject to clinical assessment and the availability of an appropriate donor match. He also explained the donation procedure and addressed questions from parents about donor safety and the transplant process.
Awareness About Thalassemia and Long-Term Care
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that affects the bodyx27s ability to produce sufficient healthy haemoglobin. Children with severe forms of the condition may require regular blood transfusions and continuing medical care.

Inner Wheel Club Jagadhri Yamunanagar President Ragini Vinayak, Project Chairman Parul Khanna and Secretary Nidhi Garg were among those associated with the programme. Past District Chairperson Anita Saluja, past presidents Shashi Gupta and Rani Bhati, along with other club members, also supported the camp and remained present during the activities.
Parul Khanna played an important role in the organisation and coordination of the camp. The organisers said the club has been undertaking medical and financial support initiatives for children affected by thalassemia and is also working to help families understand the illness and the treatment options available to them.
Guests Encourage Continued Support for Thalassemia-Affected Children
District President Mr Sapra, Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Corporation councillor Vibhol Pahuja also visited the camp. They appreciated the efforts being made for children living with thalassemia and encouraged the team involved in the initiative.
