National Public School Yamunanagar students learn key safety lessons as Safe City team conducts awareness session on child protection, cyber safety and drug abuse

The Yamunanagar District Police organised a child safety and awareness programme at National Public School, Yamunanagar, as part of its continuing outreach campaign in educational institutions. The session was conducted by ASI Neelam of the Safe City team under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goel, with students receiving information on personal safety, emergency assistance, cyber security and the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Students briefed on good touch and bad touch
During the programme, ASI Neelam explained the concepts of good touch and bad touch in simple and age-appropriate terms. Students were encouraged to speak without fear or hesitation if anyone behaves inappropriately with them and to immediately inform their parents, teachers or another trusted adult.
The students were also reminded that the police emergency helpline 112 can be contacted in an emergency. The discussion was aimed at helping children recognise unsafe situations and seek timely support rather than remaining silent or confused.
Cyber safety and responsible internet use discussed
The awareness session also focused on the growing risks associated with cybercrime. Students were advised to use social media carefully, avoid sharing personal information with strangers, refrain from clicking suspicious or unknown links and remain alert to online fraud and cyber scams.
Police officials advised students to report any cybercrime promptly so that appropriate action can be initiated without unnecessary delay. The emphasis was on developing safe digital habits and encouraging young users to treat online interactions with the same caution they would exercise in the physical world.

Students urged to stay away from drugs
Drug abuse was another important topic covered during the programme. ASI Neelam explained that substance abuse can affect not only physical and mental well-being but also a person’s future, family and wider social environment.
Students were encouraged to remain away from drugs and to motivate their friends and family members to understand the risks associated with substance abuse. The message placed emphasis on early awareness, responsible choices and seeking help when a person faces a problem related to substance use.
Students interact with police officials
Students asked the police team questions on different aspects of safety, cybercrime and law enforcement. Their queries were answered during the interactive session, giving them an opportunity to clarify concerns and understand how they can seek assistance when faced with an unsafe or suspicious situation.
The police appealed to students to follow the law, remain alert about their safety and immediately inform the authorities about suspicious activities. The district police said similar awareness programmes would continue in educational institutions to strengthen safety and legal awareness among children and young people.
