Mukand Public School students turn festival celebrations green with eco-friendly Ganesha idols and a zero-waste message

Students at Mukand Public School in Model Town, Yamunanagar, took part in an environmental awareness programme organised by the Municipal Corporation’s Swachh Bharat Mission team on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, promoting eco-friendly celebrations and the zero-waste approach.
Students make clay Ganesha idols
Held under the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad, the programme encouraged students to celebrate the festival without harming the environment. The students enthusiastically prepared Ganesha idols from clay, highlighting the importance of choosing natural and eco-friendly materials for religious celebrations.

Swachh Bharat Mission expert Durgesh Kumar explained to students that clay idols are better suited to environmentally responsible celebrations and can help reduce water pollution during immersion. As part of the programme, students also formed an attractive human-chain representation of Lord Ganesha.
The activity used creativity to communicate a wider message on cleanliness, environmental protection and responsible festival practices, while encouraging students to take the idea of sustainable celebrations beyond the classroom.
