Students showcase exceptional creativity in dance, music, poetry, painting and quiz; winners honoured during closing ceremony

A vibrant celebration of creativity, confidence and artistic excellence unfolded at DAV Girls College, Yamunanagar, where the institution organised a two-day Talent Hunt Competition featuring a diverse range of literary, cultural and intellectual events. Hundreds of students participated enthusiastically in dance, singing, poetry recitation, speech, instrumental music, painting and quiz competitions, transforming the campus into a platform for youthful expression and talent.
The concluding ceremony honoured outstanding performers with certificates and accolades in the presence of Officiating Principal Dr Surinder Kaur, Programme Coordinators Dr Neeta Dwivedi and Dr Gursharan Kaur, who congratulated the winners and encouraged students to continue nurturing their creative potential alongside academic pursuits.
The annual Talent Hunt is regarded as one of the college’s signature co-curricular initiatives, aimed at identifying hidden talent, strengthening communication skills and promoting holistic personality development among young women.
Dr Surinder Kaur said educational institutions have a responsibility to provide equal importance to cultural and creative development in addition to classroom learning. She noted that competitions such as these help students discover their abilities, build confidence and prepare for leadership opportunities in the future.
She praised the remarkable enthusiasm displayed by participants and emphasised that artistic expression, public speaking and teamwork contribute significantly to the overall growth of students.
The event witnessed impressive performances across individual and group categories. In the solo dance competition, Sanya of BA Final Year secured the first position, while Kashish from the Department of Mass Communication, BA First Year, claimed second place. Samriddhi of BA Psychology Honours and Nancy of BCA jointly secured the third position. Consolation prizes were awarded to Shagun, Gurpreet and Prisha for their notable performances.
The group dance category also attracted significant attention, with the team of Simran and Divya winning first place. The duo of Mannat and Sanya finished second, while the Lavanya Team secured third position for its energetic and well-coordinated presentation.
Literary competitions reflected the students’ strong command over language and expression. In the poetry recitation competition, Swastika of BA Second Year emerged as the winner. Indu and Jasleen jointly secured second place, while Vrinda claimed third. Consolation honours were presented to Anshika, Tanya and Amrit Kaur.
The speech competition highlighted students’ confidence in public speaking and analytical thinking. Manasvi Tyagi of BSc First Year won first prize, followed by Khushi Vats of BA Second Year in second place. Yahna of BA First Year secured the third position, while Sneha, Himanshi and Paridhi received consolation awards.
Musical performances added further excitement to the festival. In the singing competition, Nancy of BA First Year secured first place with her melodious performance. Meghanshu of BA Final Year won second position, while Swastika and Nargis jointly earned third place. Consolation prizes went to Babita, Lavina and Aarti.
The instrumental music competition showcased exceptional musical talent, with Meghanshu winning first place. Swastika finished second, while Ishita of M.Com First Year secured third position for her performance.
Students also demonstrated impressive teamwork and intellectual ability during the quiz competition. The team comprising Manasvi, Jyoti and Khwaish emerged victorious. Mahi, Mehak and Chhavi secured second place, while two teams—Hansika, Kanika Kamboj and Divya, and Anusha, Asmita and Arshpreet—jointly claimed third position after a closely contested final round.
The painting competition highlighted artistic imagination and visual storytelling. Khushboo of BA First Year won first prize, followed by Diksha Choudhary in second place. Kunjal from BA Psychology Honours secured third position, while Vanshika and Ayushi jointly received consolation awards for their creative artworks.
Programme Coordinator Dr Neeta Dwivedi said the objective of the Talent Hunt was to encourage students to step beyond their comfort zones and express themselves through multiple creative mediums. She noted that participation often proves more valuable than victory, as it helps students develop confidence, discipline and interpersonal skills.
Co-coordinator Dr Gursharan Kaur appreciated the dedication of the organising faculty and the enthusiastic response from students. She said the diversity of competitions ensured that every student had an opportunity to participate according to her interests and abilities.
Faculty members also acknowledged the role of cultural activities in enhancing emotional intelligence, leadership qualities and collaborative learning. They observed that the competitions reflected the institution’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where academic excellence is complemented by artistic and intellectual growth.
The two-day Talent Hunt concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, applause for the winners and a collective commitment to promoting creativity, innovation and excellence among students. The organisers described the event as a celebration of talent that reinforces the college’s vision of empowering young women through education, culture and holistic development.
