Mayor Suman Bahmani to chair meeting at Gymkhana Club; councillors’ proposals on ward-level problems, major development works and community centre online booking to be discussed

The general meeting of the Municipal Corporation House will be held at Gymkhana Club on September 16, with Mayor Suman Bahmani scheduled to chair the proceedings. The meeting is expected to focus extensively on the city’s development, improvement of basic civic amenities, accountability over resolutions passed in the previous House meeting, review of development works worth crores of rupees and consideration of new proposals aimed at addressing public needs.
The Municipal Corporation has sought written proposals from councillors for issues and development requirements concerning their respective wards so that these can be incorporated into the agenda for discussion. The move is intended to ensure that ward-level concerns receive due consideration in the House and that development priorities can be determined according to the needs of different areas.
Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad has directed corporation officials to complete all preparations for the meeting. He said the principal objective of the House meeting is to accelerate development works across the city according to local requirements and ensure that civic issues raised by elected representatives are addressed in a timely manner.
The Commissioner said priorities would be determined on the basis of complaints, suggestions and proposals received from councillors. Officials of the concerned departments would be given directions for necessary action and prompt resolution of issues falling within their respective jurisdictions.
With several major development works already underway or proposed in different parts of the city, the meeting is expected to provide an opportunity to review their progress and assess whether projects are being implemented according to the approved plans and timelines. The status of resolutions passed during the previous meeting is also expected to come under scrutiny, with officials required to provide updates on action taken.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said the House meeting would provide further momentum to the city’s development. She said proposals concerning public welfare and development works worth crores of rupees would be considered during the meeting and the House would take appropriate decisions in the larger interest of residents.
She said the participation of councillors is particularly important because they remain directly connected with residents and are aware of issues affecting individual wards. Written proposals sought from councillors will help the corporation identify areas requiring immediate attention and facilitate discussion on both pending problems and new development requirements.
The Mayor said the Municipal Corporation’s focus would remain on ensuring that development reaches every part of the city according to local needs. She added that public-interest issues raised through the elected representatives should be discussed seriously and appropriate decisions taken through the House process.
The agenda is expected to include issues related to public problems and the status of works in different wards. The Municipal Corporation has officially informed councillors about the meeting and asked them to submit details of ongoing works, pending issues and proposals for new development projects in their respective areas.
The proposals submitted by councillors and issues concerning residents will be given prominence in the House agenda. This will enable elected representatives to place ward-level concerns before the House and seek decisions on matters requiring administrative or financial intervention.
Councillors are expected to raise issues relating to roads, drains, sewerage, stormwater drainage, street lighting, water supply, waterlogging, sanitation and other basic civic services. These services directly affect the day-to-day lives of residents, and their improvement is likely to remain an important part of the discussions.
The meeting will also discuss strengthening basic urban infrastructure in various parts of the city. Representatives may place their suggestions regarding repair and construction of roads, improvement of drainage systems, expansion or repair of sewerage infrastructure and measures to address waterlogging during the monsoon.
Street lighting and drinking water supply are also expected to feature among the civic issues raised by councillors. Sanitation arrangements and cleanliness in residential areas are likely to receive attention as the corporation reviews the need for improved civic services across its jurisdiction.
Apart from ward-level development and public amenities, the proposed online booking system for Municipal Corporation community centres is also expected to be placed before the House. The proposal includes a system for online booking of community centres, with fees determined according to the area of the respective facility and a defined booking procedure.
The corporation had recently considered introducing an online system for community centre bookings for weddings, last rites-related functions, birthdays and other social gatherings. The proposed system is intended to bring greater transparency to the booking process and make it easier for residents to access the facilities.
Under the proposed arrangement, applicants would be able to complete the booking process online and pay the prescribed charges and security amount through the designated system. A digital receipt would provide confirmation of the booking. The proposal, including the applicable fee structure and booking process, is expected to be discussed by the House before a final decision is taken.
The community centres are intended to provide affordable venues for residents, particularly families who may not be able to afford expensive private facilities for social functions. The online system is expected to simplify access while establishing a transparent mechanism for determining charges.
The September 16 meeting is therefore likely to cover both immediate ward-level concerns and broader policy decisions concerning municipal services and infrastructure. The review of previously approved resolutions will also help determine the progress made since the last House meeting and identify matters requiring further action.
Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad has asked officials to ensure that all necessary preparations are completed before the meeting. Departmental officials are expected to remain prepared with relevant information regarding ongoing projects, pending complaints and proposals placed before the House.
The Mayor said decisions taken by the Municipal Corporation House should ultimately translate into visible improvements for residents. She stressed that the elected representatives’ proposals and public grievances would help the corporation establish development priorities and address problems in a systematic manner.
The meeting will also provide councillors with an institutional platform to raise concerns from their respective wards and seek action on issues that may have remained pending. Discussions are expected to focus on finding practical solutions while ensuring that development works are undertaken in accordance with municipal priorities.
With a large number of development and civic issues expected to be placed before the House, the September 16 meeting is likely to be significant for the future development agenda of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.
