MeitY Startup Hub expert Utkarsh Mathur urges students to turn innovative ideas into successful ventures and become job creators

DAV Girls College, Yamunanagar, organised an online lecture on technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in association with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. The session was aimed at encouraging young people to recognise the potential of their ideas, seek appropriate guidance and explore opportunities to transform innovative concepts into viable entrepreneurial ventures.
Utkarsh Mathur, Senior Manager at MeitY Startup Hub, was the keynote speaker during the online lecture. Addressing the students, he said the new ideas emerging from the country’s youth have the potential to influence the direction of India’s development. However, he emphasised that innovative thinking needs proper guidance, mentorship and opportunities to move beyond the idea stage and take the shape of new enterprises.
The programme was chaired by DAV Girls College’s Officeating Principal Dr Surinder Kaur and Institution’s Innovation Council Convener Vivek. The session provided students with an opportunity to learn about the startup ecosystem, technology-driven entrepreneurship and the avenues available to young innovators seeking to develop their ideas.
Mathur said young people should not restrict themselves to becoming job seekers. Instead, they should also aspire to become job creators by developing innovative solutions and building enterprises around their ideas. He said the changing technological environment has opened up new possibilities for young people with creativity, technical knowledge and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Explaining the role of MeitY Startup Hub, Mathur said the platform provides young innovators with an ecosystem in which they can develop their technical and innovative ideas and receive guidance on taking those ideas towards commercialisation. The objective is to help aspiring entrepreneurs understand how a concept can be developed into a practical product, service or business opportunity.
He said young innovators can benefit from interaction with technology experts and experienced entrepreneurs through the platform. Such interactions can help them gain professional guidance, establish useful contacts and understand the practical aspects of launching a startup.
According to Mathur, entrepreneurship provides an opportunity for young people to combine creativity with technology and develop solutions to real-world problems. He encouraged students of DAV Girls College to look at challenges around them as potential opportunities for innovation rather than limiting their thinking to conventional career choices.
He stressed that an innovative idea becomes meaningful when efforts are made to develop and implement it. Students, he said, should not allow their ideas to remain confined to discussions or imagination but should work towards converting them into sustainable businesses.
Mathur also encouraged students to make technology and innovation their strengths. He said India’s young population has the energy, creativity and potential required to take the country to new heights in technology and entrepreneurship.
He explained that developing a successful venture requires more than an initial idea. Aspiring entrepreneurs need to understand technology, users, markets and business models while also being prepared to learn continuously and adapt to changing circumstances. Guidance from experts and experienced entrepreneurs can help young innovators navigate these stages more effectively.
The Senior Manager also briefed students about government initiatives and schemes aimed at supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. He encouraged the students to remain aware of such programmes and explore the opportunities available to young people seeking to develop technology-based ideas.
The lecture was particularly relevant for students interested in emerging technologies, startups and independent career opportunities. Exposure to professionals working in the innovation ecosystem can help students understand how academic learning can be connected with practical applications and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Mathur said the country’s youth can play a decisive role in India’s technological and economic progress. He urged students to develop confidence in their ideas and to seek appropriate mentorship rather than abandoning promising concepts because of a lack of initial resources or experience.
He also highlighted the importance of networking in entrepreneurship.
