Visitors informed about free legal services, National Lok Adalat and NALSA helpline 15100
KURUKSHETRA | PEN OF DEMOCRACY NEWS DESK
A Legal Awareness Help Desk has been established at the Panorama and Science Centre in Kurukshetra to provide visitors and members of the public with information about free legal services available through the District Legal Services Authority.
The initiative was carried out under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge Dinesh Kumar Mittal and the directions of Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Nitika Bhardwaj. The help desk was established with the objective of making people more aware of their legal rights and ensuring that those in need know where and how to access free legal assistance.
Visitors arriving at the Panorama and Science Centre were informed about the various legal services provided by the District Legal Services Authority. Officials and representatives at the help desk explained the availability of free legal assistance, legal advice and guidance for eligible people.
The initiative also focused on increasing public awareness about the National Lok Adalat and the important role it can play in resolving eligible disputes through mutual consent. Visitors were informed that matters falling within the applicable framework can be settled through an amicable process, allowing parties to seek resolution in a harmonious environment.
People were encouraged to make maximum use of the National Lok Adalat mechanism wherever their cases are eligible for settlement. The awareness effort sought to familiarise citizens with an alternative avenue through which disputes can be resolved without allowing matters to remain pending for unnecessarily long periods.
The help desk also provided information about the availability of free legal aid for people who require assistance. Visitors were informed that eligible persons can seek legal advice and guidance through the District Legal Services Authority and can obtain information about the legal services available to them.
Particular emphasis was placed on the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) helpline number 15100. Members of the public were informed that people requiring legal assistance or information related to legal services can contact the helpline.
The awareness initiative is intended to bridge the information gap between citizens and the legal services available through the legal aid system. Many people may not be aware that free legal assistance is available to eligible persons, or may not know where to approach for guidance. The help desk provided an accessible point where visitors could obtain basic information and understand the avenues available to them.
The programme also highlighted the importance of legal awareness in enabling citizens to understand their rights and responsibilities. Timely access to appropriate legal guidance can help people make informed decisions when facing disputes or other legal difficulties.
The National Lok Adalat awareness component was another important aspect of the initiative. Visitors were explained that eligible cases can be considered for settlement through mutual agreement, making cooperation between the parties an important part of the process.
The District Legal Services Authority has been undertaking public awareness initiatives to ensure that legal aid and dispute-resolution mechanisms reach a wider section of society. Establishing the help desk at a public visitor centre provided an opportunity to interact directly with people from different backgrounds.
The initiative also encouraged citizens to seek appropriate legal advice rather than allowing uncertainty about legal procedures to prevent them from pursuing available remedies. Information regarding legal aid and guidance can be particularly useful for people who may otherwise find it difficult to understand or navigate legal processes.
Officials associated with the awareness drive urged members of the public to share information about free legal services with family members, neighbours and others who may require assistance. Wider awareness, they said, can help ensure that eligible people are able to access the support available to them.
The establishment of the help desk under the guidance of the district judiciary and District Legal Services Authority reinforces the focus on accessible justice and public legal awareness. The initiative combined information about free legal aid with awareness about the National Lok Adalat and the NALSA helpline, giving visitors practical information about where to seek assistance.
Citizens were specifically encouraged to remember 15100, the NALSA helpline, for information and assistance related to legal services.
The programme concluded with an appeal to the public to remain informed about their legal rights, make use of available legal assistance and explore amicable settlement mechanisms such as the National Lok Adalat wherever applicable.
Through such awareness initiatives, the District Legal Services Authority aims to make legal assistance more accessible and ensure that members of the public are aware of the support available to them when they face legal difficulties.
