30 persons with disabilities and senior citizens registered for artificial limbs and other support equipment; next camp scheduled in Vyasapur on September 8

Free assessment camps to identify eligible persons with disabilities and senior citizens for artificial limbs and other assistive devices have begun in Yamunanagar district under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner and District Red Cross Committee president Preeti. The initiative is being implemented by the District Red Cross Committee with the objective of ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive appropriate support equipment and are able to participate more independently in everyday life.
Officiating secretary of the District Red Cross Committee, Sanjeev Dhiman, said the first camp was organised in Chhachhrauli block. The camps are being conducted for persons with disabilities across the district as well as senior citizens eligible under the Vyoshri scheme. The programme is aimed at identifying beneficiaries through proper assessment and measurement before providing them with suitable assistive equipment.
The assessment was carried out with the assistance of the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Government of India agency. The team included audiologist Madhukar, prosthetist and orthotist Amandeep Sharma and clerk Subhash Chandra. The officials examined and assessed eligible persons to determine their requirements for different types of assistive devices.
Following the assessment, 30 persons with disabilities and senior citizens were registered for various assistive devices. The registration process will enable the identified beneficiaries to receive equipment according to their assessed needs.
Representatives of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer’s office, Chhachhrauli, were also present during the camp. Rohit, SCP Officer, appreciated the Red Cross Committee’s efforts to organise such programmes for the benefit of people requiring assistance.
Sanjeev Dhiman said the free camps were part of the Red Cross Committee’s continuing public welfare efforts. He said the organisation was working to ensure that eligible and needy persons with disabilities receive assistive equipment without financial burden. Such support, he added, can help beneficiaries become more independent and facilitate their greater participation in social and community life.
The initiative also covers senior citizens aged 60 years and above who meet the eligibility requirements under the relevant scheme. The Red Cross Committee has appealed to eligible beneficiaries and their families to make full use of the assessment camps and ensure that those requiring assistive devices are registered.
The next assessment and measurement camp will be held on September 8, 2026, at the Block Development and Panchayat Officer’s Office, Vyasapur. The camp will cater to persons with disabilities and senior citizens from Sadhaura and Vyasapur blocks.
Officials have urged eligible residents to attend the camp in large numbers so that their requirements can be assessed and they can be considered for suitable assistive equipment. The committee has particularly appealed to families of persons with disabilities and senior citizens to ensure that beneficiaries do not miss the opportunity to undergo assessment free of cost.
Beneficiaries attending the camps have been advised to carry their disability certificate or UDID card, Aadhaar card, Family ID or income certificate, and photocopies of the required documents, along with photographs. Carrying the necessary documents will help officials complete the verification and registration process smoothly.
The Red Cross Committee said the assessment process is an important first step because assistive devices are provided after determining the specific needs of individual beneficiaries. The involvement of the ALIMCO team allows technical assessment and measurement to be carried out before the equipment is provided.
The committee has appealed to eligible persons to come forward and benefit from the initiative rather than allowing disability or age-related difficulties to limit their participation in community life. The programme is also intended to strengthen access to welfare support for people who may otherwise face difficulties in arranging assistive equipment on their own.
