The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and the Research and Development Cell of DAV Girls College jointly organised an extension lecture on “Guidance on Research Proposal Writing and Presentation for Funding Agencies” to provide students with practical knowledge about developing effective research proposals and exploring funding opportunities.
The programme featured Innovation Ambassadors Dr Archana and Dr Ameesha Khatkar as the main speakers. The session was chaired by Dr Sunita Kaushik, Coordinator of the Research and Development Cell, and Vivek, Convener of the Institution Innovation Council.
Addressing the participants, Dr Archana explained the fundamental elements required for preparing a strong and effective research proposal. She said that the selection of a research problem should be clear, logical and relevant. A researcher must first identify a meaningful problem and then define the objectives of the study in a systematic manner.
She further explained that research methodology, sample selection, data collection and data analysis are important components of any research project. Using examples from different fields of science, Dr Archana explained the process of identifying research problems and analysing statistical data in a simple and practical manner.
She said that a well-prepared research proposal should clearly demonstrate the novelty and usefulness of the proposed study. The possible outcomes and practical contribution of the research should also be presented effectively so that the relevance and potential impact of the project can be properly understood.
Dr Ameesha Khatkar spoke about the process of preparing grant proposals and informed the students about funding opportunities available for research projects through various government and non-government agencies.
She explained that researchers need to understand the specific requirements and guidelines of funding agencies before preparing and submitting a proposal. Students were guided on following the prescribed format, preparing proper documentation and submitting proposals within the stipulated time.
Dr Khatkar also highlighted the importance of clearly presenting the research objectives, proposed budget, work plan and expected outcomes. She said that an effective grant proposal should communicate both the importance and feasibility of a research project in a structured and convincing manner.
The speakers emphasised that research should not be viewed only as a means of obtaining an academic degree. They encouraged students to consider research as an important tool for identifying and addressing challenges faced by society and the country.
Students were encouraged to observe issues around them, identify areas requiring innovation and undertake meaningful research on subjects that can provide practical solutions. The session also aimed to develop a better understanding among participants about the connection between academic research, innovation and real-world problem-solving.
The programme provided valuable guidance on research problem identification, proposal writing, research methodology, statistical analysis, grant applications and effective presentation before funding agencies.
The joint initiative of the Institution Innovation Council and Research and Development Cell reflected DAV Girls College’s focus on promoting a culture of research, innovation and academic excellence among students.
Faculty members Dr Priyanka and Dr Parmesh Kumar also contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.
The session concluded with the speakers encouraging students to strengthen their research skills, explore available funding opportunities and undertake innovative projects that can contribute to social development and national progress.
