Reviews facilities, case management and welfare arrangements at Sakhi One Stop Centre; interacts with elderly women at Prerna Old Age Home

Haryana State Commission for Women member Dr Anukampa Garg conducted an inspection of the One Stop Centre (Sakhi) in Kurukshetra on Monday and reviewed the facilities and arrangements available for women seeking assistance through the centre. During the visit, she obtained detailed information about the functioning of the centre, the services being provided and the cases being received for assistance and support.
Following the inspection, Dr Garg issued necessary directions to the concerned officials and emphasised the importance of ensuring effective services and proper arrangements for women approaching the One Stop Centre.
The visit was aimed at reviewing the overall functioning of the centre and understanding how assistance and support services are being provided to women facing different circumstances. Dr Garg sought detailed information regarding the available facilities and the procedures being followed in handling cases received at the centre.
Before inspecting the One Stop Centre, the Haryana State Commission for Women member also held a meeting with Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena. During the meeting, discussions were held regarding various schemes and projects being implemented by the concerned department and the initiatives being carried out for the welfare and support of women.
The One Stop Centre, popularly known as Sakhi, is functioning under the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, under the Nirbhaya Scheme. In Kurukshetra, the centre is being run under the leadership of District Programme Officer Misha Ranga, while its day-to-day operations are being managed by Centre Administrator Shailja Saini.
During her inspection, Dr Anukampa Garg reviewed the arrangements at the centre and took detailed information about the cases being handled there. She stressed the need for proper coordination and efficient functioning so that women approaching the centre can receive the required assistance and support in a timely manner.
The One Stop Centre serves as an important institutional support mechanism for women who require assistance and guidance. During the visit, attention was given to the facilities available at the centre and the overall arrangements made for women seeking help.
Dr Garg also interacted with the officials associated with the centre and issued necessary instructions after reviewing the existing arrangements. She underlined the importance of maintaining an effective support system and ensuring that the facilities at the centre are managed properly.
The inspection was part of the Commission’s efforts to review the functioning of institutions and welfare facilities related to women’s support and protection. The discussions focused on understanding the operational arrangements of the centre and ensuring that the objectives of the scheme are implemented effectively at the district level.
After completing her visit to the One Stop Centre, Dr Anukampa Garg also inspected Prerna Old Age Home in Kurukshetra. During the inspection, she interacted with the elderly women residing at the facility and sought detailed information about their living conditions, food arrangements and other facilities being provided to them.
She spoke with the residents to understand their day-to-day experiences and reviewed the basic arrangements available at the old age home. The interaction focused on their accommodation, food and other essential facilities.
Dr Garg took feedback from the elderly women regarding their stay at the facility and sought information about whether they were receiving the necessary care and support. The inspection provided an opportunity to review the welfare arrangements being made for senior women residing at the home.
The visit to Prerna Old Age Home was also aimed at ensuring that elderly women are provided with appropriate living conditions and essential facilities. Dr Garg interacted with the residents and reviewed various aspects of their daily lives at the institution.
The inspection of both the One Stop Centre and the old age home highlighted the importance of regular monitoring of institutions involved in women’s welfare and social support. Such inspections help authorities assess the available facilities, understand operational requirements and issue directions wherever improvements or further action may be required.
During the visit to Prerna Old Age Home, Dr Garg was accompanied by Women and Child Development Project Officer, Ladwa, Usha Kamboj, Mahila Morcha president, Thanesar, Vandana, and old age home administrator Renu Khuggar.
The inspection programme focused on reviewing welfare facilities for women at different stages of life—from women seeking institutional support through the One Stop Centre to elderly women residing in a dedicated care facility.
Dr Anukampa Garg’s visit underlined the need for continued monitoring, coordination and proper implementation of welfare schemes and institutional support systems. By reviewing the functioning of the One Stop Centre and personally interacting with elderly women at Prerna Old Age Home, the Commission member assessed the arrangements being made for women’s welfare and issued necessary directions to the concerned officials.
