15-foot reptile captures goat in Chhachhrauli’s Bhilpura village; released into forest after rescue operation

A python measuring nearly 15 feet in length swallowed a goat in Bhilpura village of Yamunanagar district’s Chhachhrauli area on Sunday, prompting a rescue operation by the Wildlife Department. The reptile was later released into a nearby forest after being safely captured.
According to local resident Munsir, he was grazing his goats in fields adjoining the forest when children alerted him to the presence of a large python. On reaching the spot, he found the reptile lying in the field with a visibly swollen abdomen. After counting his livestock, he realised that one goat was missing and suspected that it had been swallowed by the python. A Wildlife Department team led by Sanjeev reached the village soon after receiving the information. During the rescue operation, the python regurgitated the goat before being safely captured. The reptile was subsequently released into a forest area away from human habitation.
Munsir said a python had killed two of his goats last year as well and urged the authorities to provide compensation to livestock owners who suffer losses due to wildlife attacks.
Wildlife Department officials said pythons often move out of forests during the monsoon in search of food and shelter, bringing them into nearby agricultural fields and residential areas. They advised residents not to attempt to catch or harm such animals and instead inform the department immediately.
Officials also clarified that pythons are non-venomous but kill their prey by constricting it with their bodies. They urged people to maintain a safe distance from wild reptiles and allow trained personnel to handle such situations.
