Civic officials and employees take pledge to serve citizens with integrity; commitment reaffirmed to cleanliness, better services and city development

Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour, dignity and enthusiasm at the Municipal Corporation office, where Mayor Suman Bahmani hoisted the national flag in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Following the flag hoisting, the Mayor received the salute from Home Guard personnel, while the national anthem filled the civic premises with a strong sense of patriotism.

Municipal Corporation officers and employees participated in the programme and paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence. The occasion also became an opportunity for civic officials and employees to reaffirm their commitment to public service and to discharge their responsibilities towards citizens with honesty, dedication and sincerity.

The celebration reflected the significance of Independence Day not merely as a national occasion but also as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with freedom. Officials emphasised that the progress of the country depends not only on government policies and development projects but also on the sincerity with which public institutions serve citizens.

Mayor Suman Bahmani pays tribute to freedom fighters

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Suman Bahmani said Independence Day was not merely a day of celebration but an occasion to remember the countless freedom fighters and martyrs who sacrificed everything for the country’s freedom.

She said the sacrifices of those who fought for India’s independence should inspire every citizen to contribute towards strengthening the country’s unity, integrity and development.

According to the Mayor, the values associated with the freedom movement continue to remain relevant in the present day. She said citizens should draw inspiration from the courage, commitment and patriotism of the freedom fighters and work collectively for the progress of the nation.

Bahmani also highlighted the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation towards the people of the city. She said the civic body was continuously working to provide better public facilities and to make the city cleaner, healthier and more beautiful.

She said civic development could not be achieved by the administration alone and required the active cooperation of citizens. Maintaining cleanliness, protecting public infrastructure, ensuring responsible waste management and supporting civic initiatives were responsibilities that should be shared by both residents and public institutions.

The Mayor also urged Municipal Corporation employees to remain committed to public welfare and ensure that citizens receive services in a transparent and efficient manner.

Commissioner Mahabir Prasad calls for dedicated public service

Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad said the country was enjoying freedom today because of the sacrifice, struggle and determination of generations of freedom fighters and martyrs.

He said Independence Day was an occasion to remember their contribution and to understand the responsibilities that citizens and public servants have towards the nation.

Prasad called upon officers and employees of the Municipal Corporation to perform their duties with complete dedication and a strong sense of responsibility. He said public service should always remain focused on the welfare and convenience of citizens.

“Every task performed honestly is a contribution towards nation-building,” he said, stressing that even routine civic responsibilities become meaningful when they are carried out with sincerity and accountability.

The Commissioner said municipal employees play an important role in maintaining essential civic services. From sanitation and public infrastructure to grievance redressal and other civic facilities, their work directly affects the daily lives of residents.

He therefore urged employees to ensure that their responsibilities were carried out efficiently and that citizens did not face unnecessary difficulties in accessing municipal services.

Pledge to strengthen civic services

The Independence Day programme also provided an opportunity for officials and employees to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening civic administration.

A similar Independence Day programme was organised at the Municipal Corporation office in Jagadhri. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar hoisted the national flag in the presence of officers and employees.

The Jagadhri office programme also carried the message of patriotism, public service and civic responsibility. Employees reaffirmed their commitment to contributing towards the development of the city and ensuring that their official responsibilities were discharged with dedication.

At the conclusion of the programme, all those present took a collective pledge to play an active role in nation-building and to continue making sustained efforts for the development of the city.

The celebrations at both Municipal Corporation offices underlined the connection between national responsibility and local governance. While Independence Day commemorates the historic achievement of freedom, the programme served as a reminder that nation-building continues through everyday public service and responsible citizenship.

Those present at the main programme included Executive Officer Jarnail Singh, former Director of the AYUSH Department Satpal Bahmani, Assistant Engineer Surender Dahiya, Junior Engineer Simran Singh and several other officers and employees of the Municipal Corporation.
