The Municipal Corporation organised a Har Ghar Tiranga awareness campaign in Sector-17, Jagadhri, as part of the special Independence Day initiative aimed at encouraging residents to display the national flag and understand its significance.
The campaign was conducted under the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Members of the Municipal Corporation’s Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) team interacted with residents and spread awareness about the importance of the national flag, respect for the Tricolour, patriotism and cleanliness.
During the programme, Swachh Bharat Mission experts Akash Kumar, Durgesh Kumar and Gagan Beniwal explained to residents that the national flag represents much more than the identity of the country. They said the Tricolour is a symbol of patriotism, national unity, integrity and pride.
The team appealed to residents to participate in the Independence Day celebrations by hoisting the Tricolour at their homes while ensuring that the national flag is treated with due dignity and respect.
The awareness drive also focused on the significance of the three colours of the Indian national flag. Residents were informed about the symbolic meaning associated with each colour and the Ashoka Chakra placed at the centre of the white band.
The team explained that saffron represents courage, sacrifice and selflessness, while white conveys the values of peace, truth and purity. The blue Ashoka Chakra in the centre was described as a symbol of continuous progress and an inspiration to follow the path of righteousness and justice.
The green colour was explained as representing prosperity, growth and greenery.
The Municipal Corporation team said that understanding the significance of the Tricolour can help citizens develop a deeper sense of connection with the country’s history and national values.
The campaign also carried a message linking patriotism with everyday civic responsibility.
The Swachh Bharat Mission team told residents that responsibility towards the nation does not end with hoisting the national flag on Independence Day. Maintaining cleanliness in one’s surroundings, keeping public places clean and contributing towards environmental protection are equally important responsibilities of citizens.
The officials encouraged residents to make cleanliness a regular part of their daily lives and to contribute towards creating healthier and cleaner neighbourhoods.
The campaign therefore combined two important messages associated with Independence Day — respect for the nation and responsibility towards the community.
The organisers said that citizens can express their patriotism not only through national celebrations but also through responsible behaviour in their neighbourhoods and public spaces.
Residents were encouraged to take an active role in maintaining cleanliness around their homes and public areas and to avoid practices that can adversely affect the environment.
The campaign also sought to create awareness among citizens about the importance of treating the national flag respectfully while encouraging wider participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative.
The Municipal Corporation said such awareness programmes are being used to take the message of the campaign directly to residents and neighbourhoods.
The Sector-17 initiative highlighted the role that local communities can play in making national campaigns more meaningful. By combining awareness about the Tricolour with messages on cleanliness and environmental responsibility, the campaign sought to connect national pride with everyday civic duties.
The organisers appealed to residents to celebrate Independence Day with enthusiasm while maintaining the dignity of the national flag and contributing towards cleaner surroundings.
The campaign reinforced the message that a clean neighbourhood, responsible citizenship and respect for national symbols can collectively contribute to a stronger and more responsible society.
