Yamunanagar Police Say Suspect Attacked Shiv Kumar With Brick Over Personal Dispute; Accused Arrested Near Kalaanur Border

Yamunanagar Police have arrested the alleged main accused in connection with the murder of Shiv Kumar, a resident of Bhagwan Garh, near Santpura Gurudwara on August 5. The arrest was made by the Crime Branch-2 team on August 11 following sustained efforts to trace the suspect.
DSP Rajat Gulia, while briefing journalists, said the action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goel. He said the accused has been arrested and will be produced before the court, where police will seek his remand for further investigation.
According to the police, the incident took place on August 5, 2026, when Shiv Kumar was walking along Santpura Road while talking on his phone. During the incident, a young man allegedly approached him on a motorcycle while wearing a helmet and attacked him on the head with a brick before fleeing from the spot.
Shiv Kumar sustained serious injuries in the attack and was taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. However, his condition was critical and he subsequently died from his injuries.
Following the incident, City Yamunanagar Police Station registered a case under FIR No. 552 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Considering the seriousness of the case, the Crime Branch-2 authorities constituted a dedicated team to trace and arrest the accused. The team included Sub-Inspector Surender, ASI Sunil, Vijay, Sanjay and Rajiv.
The police team conducted searches and followed leads in an effort to identify and locate the person allegedly involved in the attack.
After sustained efforts, the team arrested Ashish, son of Pursottam, a resident of Street No. 1, Laxmi Nagar Camp, under Farkpur police station in Yamunanagar, from the Kalaanur border on August 11, 2026.
DSP Rajat Gulia said the accused would be presented before the court and police would seek remand for questioning. The remand is expected to assist investigators in establishing the sequence of events surrounding the murder and examining other facts connected with the case.
According to the preliminary police account, the alleged motive behind the attack was a personal dispute involving a woman. Police said the accused allegedly had a grudge against Shiv Kumar over the matter and attacked him while he was walking along the road.
The police said the accused allegedly struck Shiv Kumar on the head with a brick and fled from the location. The nature of the attack resulted in serious head injuries, ultimately leading to the victim’s death.
Investigators are now examining the circumstances that preceded the incident, the exact sequence of the attack and the events following the assault.
DSP Gulia said that the accused would be questioned after being taken on police remand and that further details of the case are expected to emerge during the interrogation.
Police are also checking the accused’s previous criminal record as part of the investigation. Investigators are examining whether the accused has been involved in any earlier criminal cases and whether there are additional facts that may have a bearing on the present investigation.
The police are also continuing to examine other evidence and circumstances related to the incident. The investigation will seek to establish the complete sequence from the alleged motive to the attack and subsequent death of Shiv Kumar.
The arrest comes six days after the reported murder and follows the formation of the special Crime Branch-2 team tasked with tracing the accused.
Police officials said the investigation remains ongoing and that further action will be taken on the basis of evidence collected during the probe.
The case has attracted attention because of the sudden nature of the attack, in which the victim was allegedly assaulted while walking on Santpura Road. According to the police version, the assailant approached on a motorcycle, attacked the victim and escaped before the injured man was taken for medical treatment.
The police are now expected to use the interrogation of the arrested accused to establish the circumstances leading to the attack and determine whether any other person was involved or had knowledge of the alleged plan.
DSP Rajat Gulia reiterated that the investigation is continuing and that the police will examine all relevant aspects of the case.
The accused is scheduled to be produced before the competent court, after which the police will seek custody for further questioning. Investigators will also continue examining the accused’s background and other evidence associated with the case.
Yamunanagar Police said that further developments will depend on the outcome of the investigation and the evidence gathered during the remand proceedings.
