The Government of India has introduced the Rah-Veer Scheme to encourage and recognise individuals who come forward to help road accident victims during the critical Golden Hour, when timely medical assistance can significantly improve the chances of survival.
Under the scheme, any person who voluntarily assists a road accident victim and ensures that the injured person reaches a hospital or informs the appropriate emergency authorities can be recognised as a “Rah-Veer”.
Eligible Good Samaritans are provided a cash reward of ₹25,000 as a token of appreciation for their life-saving efforts. The initiative seeks to promote a culture of compassion and encourage citizens not to hesitate when someone requires immediate assistance following a road accident.
The scheme complements the PM-RAHAT initiative, which focuses on providing cashless treatment to road accident victims and encouraging greater public participation in emergency response.
Together, these initiatives are aimed at strengthening India’s road-safety ecosystem and improving the chances of survival for accident victims by encouraging timely intervention.
The government has emphasised that citizens who come forward with good intentions to help injured persons are protected under the law and should not be discouraged by fear of unnecessary legal or procedural complications.
Authorities have urged all road users to drive responsibly, follow traffic rules and take basic safety precautions such as wearing helmets and seat belts.
The appeal also stresses the importance of helping accident victims whenever it is safe to do so. During the Golden Hour, even a short delay in receiving medical assistance can have serious consequences.
The Rah-Veer initiative therefore seeks to turn ordinary citizens into first responders by recognising those who choose to help at a critical moment. By encouraging timely assistance and reducing hesitation among bystanders, the government aims to build a stronger culture of road safety, responsibility and compassion across the country.
