Nearly 90 sanitation workers and municipal employees undergo health screening as civic body stresses preventive healthcare for frontline workforce

As part of the nationwide ‘Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ (Adopt Cleanliness, Drive Away Disease) campaign, the Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation organised a comprehensive health screening camp for sanitation workers and municipal employees at the Citizen Facilitation Centre located within the civic body’s office premises.
The health camp was organised under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad and was inaugurated by Chief Sanitation Inspector Vinod Beniwal, who also underwent a preventive health check-up along with other officials.
Around 90 sanitation workers, officers and municipal employees participated in the camp, where a team of medical professionals conducted a range of health examinations, including blood pressure, blood sugar, tuberculosis (TB) screening and chest X-rays. Citizens visiting the Citizen Facilitation Centre also availed themselves of the free medical services.

The initiative was aimed at promoting preventive healthcare among sanitation workers, who remain on the frontlines of maintaining urban hygiene and are often exposed to occupational health risks.
Municipal officials, including Chief Sanitation Inspector Vinod Beniwal, Sanitation Inspector Sushil Sharma and several other employees, actively participated in the screening programme and encouraged sanitation workers to undergo regular medical check-ups.
A medical team from the Civil Hospital conducted the examinations and provided health consultations. The team included Medical Officers Dr Anil and Dr Pratyush, Microbiologist Priyanka, Lab Technicians Jyoti and Manju, Pharmacists Neetu and Rajni, TB Health Visitor Meenakshi, and X-ray Technician Pradeep.
Officials said the camp was organised not only to identify potential health concerns at an early stage but also to create awareness about the importance of routine health monitoring among sanitation workers.
The Additional Municipal Commissioner said sanitation workers play a crucial role in keeping the city clean throughout the year and therefore deserve regular access to quality healthcare services.
“Sanitation workers work tirelessly day and night to maintain cleanliness across the city. Their health and well-being are equally important, and regular medical check-ups help detect illnesses early while ensuring timely treatment,” the official said.
The programme was supported by the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) team, with IEC specialists Akash Kumar, Gagan Beniwal and Pankaj assisting in the successful organisation of the camp.
The Municipal Corporation said similar initiatives would continue in the future to promote occupational health and ensure the welfare of sanitation workers, who form the backbone of the city’s public sanitation system.
