A 60-year-old woman was killed in a tragic road accident near Mahmoodpur village in Yamunanagar district after a Haryana Roadways bus allegedly rammed into the motorcycle she was riding pillion on. The woman died on the spot after falling onto the road, where the rear wheel of the bus reportedly ran over her head. The bus driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Bimla Devi, a resident of Sadhaura. She was returning home with her nephew, Sukhwinder Singh, after visiting relatives in Arnauli village, where she had been staying for the past four to five days.

In his complaint to the police, Sukhwinder Singh stated that the accident occurred when they were travelling in their lane near Mahmoodpur village. He alleged that a Haryana Roadways bus belonging to the Yamunanagar depot, approaching from behind at high speed, struck their motorcycle.

The impact caused both riders to lose balance. While Sukhwinder was thrown towards the roadside, Bimla Devi fell onto the road. Before the bus could stop, one of its wheels allegedly passed over her head, resulting in her instantaneous death.

The accident created panic among commuters and local residents, who immediately informed the police. A team from Sadar Jagadhri Police Station rushed to the spot, regulated traffic and shifted the body for post-mortem examination before initiating legal proceedings.

Station House Officer (SHO) Anand Prakash said that a case has been registered against the bus driver on the basis of the complaint. The driver fled immediately after the accident, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

Police officials said investigators are examining the exact circumstances that led to the accident. CCTV footage from nearby locations is also being scrutinised to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and the dangers posed by rash and negligent driving on busy roads. Local residents have urged the authorities to ensure strict enforcement of traffic regulations and take firm action against those responsible for fatal road accidents.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
