Seva Bharati volunteer Navin Tyagi honours the memory of his son Gaurav through environmental and community welfare initiatives

In a heartfelt tribute to his late son Gaurav, former Yamunanagar district secretary of Seva Bharati, Navin Tyagi, on Wednesday observed his son’s birth anniversary by distributing 51 Tulsi saplings, reinforcing a long-standing family tradition of social service and environmental conservation.
The programme was organised under the banner of Seva Bharati at Model Colony, Yamunanagar, where members of the community, social workers and local residents gathered to participate in the commemorative event.
Gaurav tragically lost his life in a road accident in December 2012. Since then, his parents, Navin Tyagi and his late wife Sunita, had dedicated his birthday each year to public welfare activities instead of private celebrations. Even after the passing of his wife, Navin Tyagi has continued the initiative, keeping alive both his son’s memory and the family’s commitment to serving society.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ravish Chauhan, Patron of Seva Bharati, said the family has consistently organised social welfare programmes such as tree plantation drives, free eye check-up camps, health awareness programmes and environmental campaigns in Gaurav’s memory.
He said that over the years, the family has planted nearly 480 saplings, including 100 trees planted in 2019 at Seva Sadan Patti Kalyana, Samalkha. Many of those saplings have now grown into mature trees, serving as a living tribute to Gaurav while contributing to environmental conservation.
The programme commenced with a havan yajna and Vedic rituals conducted by Pandit Dharmendra Shastri, who also recited sacred hymns and offered prayers for peace and well-being. Senior social worker Chaudhary Satpal Rauji participated as the chief yajman.

During the event, 51 Tulsi saplings were distributed jointly by Chaudhary Satpal Rauji and Navin Tyagi among residents and attendees. Speakers highlighted the religious, cultural and medicinal significance of the Tulsi plant, encouraging every household to grow the sacred herb as part of a healthier and greener lifestyle.
Addressing the gathering, speakers appreciated Navin Tyagi’s unwavering commitment to transforming personal grief into a meaningful social mission. They noted that his annual initiatives have inspired many people to contribute to environmental protection and community welfare through similar acts of service.
Several prominent members of society attended the programme, including Dr Kanwar Pal Singh, Vijay Bakshi, Ram Prakash Makkad, Sushil, Ashok Kohli, Dr Rakesh Tyagi, Amit Gupta, Raj Kumar Bhatia, Tarun Mehta, Satnam Singh, Suresh Sharma, Manpreet Kaur, along with women, children and numerous local residents.
The programme concluded with light refreshments, while participants appreciated the family’s continued dedication to preserving Gaurav’s memory through initiatives that benefit society and promote environmental awareness.
