Students of Government High School, Govindpuri, turned their creativity into a powerful message for cleanliness by participating in a drawing competition organised under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) as part of the ‘Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ campaign.

The programme, organised under the guidance of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad, aimed to sensitise young minds about sanitation, environmental conservation and healthy living through art.

Students enthusiastically created paintings on themes such as cleanliness, waste segregation, plastic-free living, energy conservation and drug awareness. Their artwork highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean environment to prevent diseases and protect nature.

Gayatri, a Class VII student, won the first prize for her painting carrying the message ‘Stop Pollution, Save Energy, Save Earth.’ Heena of Class VI secured the second position, while Upasana of Class X finished third with an artwork promoting a drug-free society.

During the event, students were encouraged to keep their homes, schools and surroundings clean, segregate wet and dry waste and avoid the use of single-use plastic.

Akash Kumar, IEC Expert under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), highlighted the environmental hazards of single-use plastic and explained how better sanitation practices can help prevent several infectious diseases. He urged students to make cleanliness a lifelong habit and inspire others to do the same.

The participants also pledged to contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and healthier Yamunanagar.
