Students Turn Waste into Art, Raise Green Message at Yamunanagar School
Students of SD Public School in Model Town, Yamunanagar, turned discarded material into creative artworks and useful items while spreading a message on waste management, recycling and tree conservation during an awareness programme organised by the Municipal Corporation under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.
The programme featured Waste to Wonder, Waste to Art and Save Trees activities and was organised under the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Students participated enthusiastically, using their creativity to demonstrate how material that is normally discarded can be given a new purpose through proper management and reuse.
During the Waste to Art activity, students prepared attractive and useful objects from discarded and unused materials. Their creations illustrated how thoughtful reuse can reduce the amount of waste reaching disposal sites while also encouraging people to look at everyday waste from a different perspective.
The students were also introduced to the RRR principle — Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They were encouraged to understand that responsible waste management begins with reducing unnecessary consumption, followed by reusing materials wherever possible and recycling items that can be processed again.
Creative Lessons in Environmental Responsibility
The Save Trees activity focused on the importance of trees and the need to protect them. Through creative presentations, the students highlighted the role of plantation, environmental conservation and regular care of trees in maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.
Carrying plants in their hands, the students conveyed the message “Save Trees, Save Environment” and pledged to contribute towards creating clean, green and sustainable surroundings. They were encouraged not only to plant more saplings but also to take responsibility for their continued care and protection.
Yamunanagar plantation initiative combines waste management with a greener environment
The initiative provided students with a practical opportunity to connect classroom learning with environmental action. By working with waste material and creating useful products, they demonstrated that items considered useless can often be transformed through imagination, skill and responsible use.
The programme also sought to make environmental awareness a part of everyday behaviour. Students were encouraged to handle waste responsibly, avoid unnecessary disposal and recognise the importance of protecting natural resources in their immediate surroundings.
Swachh Bharat Mission expert Durgesh Kumar and school principal Sunita Sharma interacted with the students and made them aware of cleanliness, environmental protection and the importance of proper waste management.
The participation of students gave the awareness programme a strong educational dimension. Instead of limiting the message to lectures, the activities allowed children to demonstrate environmental responsibility through their own ideas and creations.
Through their artworks, exhibits and tree-protection message, the students conveyed a simple lesson: waste can be managed creatively, useful material can be reused and trees can be protected when environmental responsibility becomes a shared community habit.
