Suman Bahmani, BJP leaders and residents join cleanliness campaign near Matka Chowk, urge citizens to make sanitation a shared responsibility

The Municipal Corporation’s ‘Swachhta Se Swagat’ campaign gathered momentum on Friday as Mayor Suman Bahmani, civic officials, BJP leaders and local residents participated in a cleanliness drive near Matka Chowk in Jagadhri, reinforcing the message that sanitation is a collective civic responsibility. The special drive was conducted at an open plot and adjoining roadside area opposite Rang Mahal, where municipal sanitation workers, volunteers and public representatives carried out a large-scale clean-up operation. Waste accumulated in the area was collected and scientifically disposed of, while participants also appealed to residents to maintain cleanliness in their neighbourhoods.  Leading the campaign, Mayor Suman Bahmani said maintaining a clean city cannot be the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation alone.  “Cleanliness begins with every household and every citizen. If people keep their surroundings clean and practise segregation of wet and dry waste at source, building a cleaner and healthier city will become much easier,” she said.   BJP District President Rajesh Sapra said the campaign reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, adding that public participation remains the key to its success.  “Cleanliness is not merely a government programme; it is a social responsibility that every citizen must embrace. Everyone should contribute towards keeping homes, neighbourhoods and public places clean,” he said. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar said the civic body has been conducting regular sanitation drives across different parts of the city and urged residents to make use of the door-to-door waste collection service instead of dumping garbage in public spaces.  He emphasised that sustained public cooperation is essential to transform cleanliness into a people’s movement and achieve long-term improvements in urban sanitation.  The campaign was attended by former Haryana AYUSH Department Director Dr Satpal Bahmani, Chief Sanitation Inspector Harjeet Singh, Ward Councillor Priyank Sharma, BJP office-bearers, municipal officials, sanitation workers and local residents, who collectively pledged to work towards a cleaner and greener Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.
