The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar has approved a series of major civic initiatives aimed at improving urban infrastructure, sanitation and public services, including round-the-year drain desilting, RFID-enabled door-to-door waste collection, flood mitigation planning and the regularisation of residential colonies. The decisions were taken during the General House meeting chaired by Mayor Suman Bahmani in the presence of MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora. A total of 42 agenda items were approved during the meeting, with senior municipal officials directed to ensure their timely implementation. One of the most significant decisions was to undertake continuous drain cleaning throughout the year instead of limiting the exercise to the pre-monsoon period. The civic body has also engaged an expert agency to prepare a long-term urban drainage blueprint after conducting ward-wise surveys. Officials said the study would help develop a sustainable drainage network capable of addressing waterlogging challenges for decades. To strengthen solid waste management, the Corporation will introduce RFID smart cards at every household. Sanitation workers engaged in door-to-door waste collection will scan the RFID tags while collecting garbage, enabling real-time monitoring of collection services and improving accountability. The House also reviewed progress on the regularisation of 76 residential colonies, which had remained unapproved due to technical issues dating back to 1996. Officials informed the House that committees have been constituted to demarcate colony boundaries, following which estimates for roads, drains and other civic infrastructure will be prepared before development works begin. Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad informed members that Yamunanagar currently ranks first in Haryana with 60.05 per cent property verification, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in strengthening municipal records. The Corporation further approved the beautification of major city entry points, plantation along road dividers and expansion of rainwater harvesting systems across municipal buildings and public parks. Officials stated that while 11 parks already have rainwater harvesting facilities, proposals have been prepared to install the systems in 15 additional parks. The House also directed officials to take action against unauthorised meat shops operating near religious places and ordered the removal of an illegally functioning liquor outlet near Chandpur.To streamline street vending, a three-member committee comprising Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, the Chief Sanitation Inspector and Councillor Priyank Sharma has been constituted to oversee the relocation of roadside vendors to designated vending zones.

Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad instructed officials to expedite implementation of all approved resolutions, stating that the initiatives are intended to improve civic services, urban cleanliness and overall quality of life for residents.
