Haryana Vigilance Bureau Arrests Irrigation Department JE, Beldar in ₹45,000 Bribery Trap

Officials caught allegedly accepting bribe for clearing contractor’s pending bills; FIR registered under Prevention of Corruption Act

The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) has arrested a Junior Engineer (JE) and a Beldar of the Irrigation Department in Yamunanagar for allegedly accepting a ₹45,000 bribe to clear a contractor’s pending bills. The accused have been identified as Junior Engineer Saurabh Kumar and Beldar Karamjit. A case has been registered against both under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.

According to the Vigilance Bureau, the complainant is a contractor working with the Irrigation Department. He alleged that despite completing all required formalities, payment of his legitimate bills had been deliberately withheld by the Junior Engineer, who allegedly demanded a bribe for releasing the dues.During the preliminary inquiry, officials found that the accused had allegedly demanded money in his own name as well as on behalf of senior officials. The complainant was allegedly instructed to hand over the amount through the department’s Beldar.Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap. During the operation, Karamjit allegedly accepted ₹45,000 from the complainant and handed the money over to JE Saurabh Kumar. The Bureau team, already positioned at the spot, immediately apprehended both accused.Officials said the entire trap operation was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.An FIR (No. 10 dated July 14, 2026) has been registered at SV&ACB Police Station, Panchkula, and investigators are examining all aspects of the case.Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau Chief A.S. Chawla appealed to the public to report any demand for bribes by government officials or employees through the Bureau’s toll-free helpline 1800-180-2022 or 1064. He assured that the identity of complainants would be kept strictly confidential and that every complaint would be investigated impartially.
