Cadets plant native saplings across campus under NCC initiative, highlighting the importance of sustainable environmental practices and climate action

The NCC Unit of DAV Girls College, Yamunanagar, organised a tree plantation drive to promote environmental conservation, with cadets planting a variety of native saplings across the college campus and hostel grounds.The campaign was conducted under the leadership of Officiating Principal Dr Surinder Kaur and NCC In-charge Major Geeta Sharma, in accordance with the guidance of Colonel Pankaj Parik, Commanding Officer of 14 Haryana Battalion NCC, and Colonel Kumud Maini, Administrative Officer.As part of the initiative, NCC cadets planted saplings of mulberry, jamun, guava, curry leaf, and other species while pledging to nurture and protect the trees. The programme also aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation, increasing green cover and maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. Addressing the participants, Dr Surinder Kaur said tree plantation is essential to tackling the growing challenges of pollution and climate change. She encouraged every individual to plant and care for at least one tree, noting that trees play a vital role in producing oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide, reducing air pollution, regulating temperatures, preventing soil erosion, conserving groundwater, enhancing biodiversity and providing habitats for birds and wildlife. Major Geeta Sharma urged the cadets to take responsibility for the saplings after planting them, stressing that plantation drives achieve their true purpose only when the trees are protected and allowed to grow to maturity. Subedar Major Jaswant Singh also extended support in the successful organisation of the programme.
